Unlike pretty much every team in the playoff hunt... Im not asking them to retain any money on him, and he goes back to Dallas in the off-season.

One year retention shouldn't be much of a problem for Dallas financially, the thing they should focus in is maximizing the return. If it means we could get a solid prospect at the cost of retaining $3,500,000 of cap (which is much less in actual money as majority of it would have been paid already earlier in the season) Stars should absolutely go via that route.

Probably not, but they should. They're way too streaky to actually compete of anything meaningful.

Only consistent things in the Stars team is Bowness' offensive game being consistently non-existent and Jim Nill doing absolutely nothing.

Outside of the 1st, I cant imagine giving up much more. Maybe Gauthier? Maybe mid-level prospects. I would avoid bidding wars if I was the Rangers.

If Pavelski was out of the realm of possibility, Id try to potentially target Jeff Carter, which would be a tough one as well because hes on PIT and Im sure theyd make us overpay.

If Jim Nill is going to sell, he will wait at the last minute to trade. He should have been selling last year when all the indicators were pointing towards a PO exclusion and he did not.

In other words, Dallas will sell under two conditions:

- Jim Nill is fired and a new GM goes in and prepare a reset
- Dallas is way way way out of a PO participation

Podkolzin for Lundkvist is actually pretty solid idea.

As for the prospect in exchange to Pavelski, maybe Pajuniemi? DAL needs RWs and love their Finns.

If I was Dallas' GM and the Rangers wanted Pavelski, I would only do a trade if one of your D prospect is included. Preferably a RD.

But when I propsoed something like that the other day, I got tons of backlash from Rangers' fans.

Lets say the Rangers do trade Nils for Podkolzin, then yea Pajuniemi becomes a bit more expendable. However, I see the Podkolzin trade happening in the offseason. With the lineup as it looks the way I have it, theres no where to slot Podkolzin in.

Let's wait until EDM screws up massively this year once again and McDavid potentially requests a trade. There's going to be a loads of McDavid to NYR posts then due to the massive amount of solid prospects NYR have lol.

Then these prospects might have much more room in the lineup.

with the Knights going to be putting Pacioretty on LTIR bc of his surgery, looks like they skated around their cap issues to activate Eichel. Dont see them moving Reilly and McNabb, they need them for their cup run, and they can avoid the need of shedding cap at the TDL bc we all know that Pacioretty will 100% be ready for game 1 of the playoffs

Youre not getting Schneider or Lundkvist to borrow Pavelski for 3 months.

It helps with the Eichel thing, but it doesnt help with the Martinez thing unless they pull a Tampa and just sit him out till the playoffs as well.

their cap situation is a mess but I dont think they have to do anything drastic to activate Martinez once he is ready to go as well, they have being playing leap frog with LTIR all season. wont shock me that their is some reason and benefit of them keeping Pacioretty on IR for as long as possible then doing some LTIR magic so they can get the most cap space available manipulating the upper limit.

I think after this season the NHLPA really has to look at this loop hole. Lighting used it to their ability within the rules, but Vegas might be making a mockery out of it this season
