Trade deadline or sooner

Description
Just a few deadline (or sooner) trades, Beaulieu could go too if anyone wanted a depth dman for a 6th or 7th round pick.

I doubt the Jets will make the playoffs and if not they really need to sell, get some picks and start a change at this TDL.

Picked teams that I thought might have interest in these guys, let me know in the comment section if these are reasonable returns for Copp, Stastny and DeMelo.

Also I wouldn't waste the first year of Perfetti's ELC on this years version of the Jets, would give him some games at the end of the season but thats it, have him as a cheap top 6/9 forward for the next three years and look at some other potential bigger roster changes in the summer.

Anyway let me know in the comments what you think of these trades, let's keep them constructive though, thanks!

I would love for the Avs to bring Stastny back home for a crack at the cup
but I could see the Avs going after Copp instead, at the price of a 2nd they would take that gamble and try to extend him

Detroit isn’t a playoff team so it doesn’t make sense to acquire Copp unless we’re talking his UFA rights during the draft but a second is too rich.

Winnipeg could get more in all of the above trades. With that being said, even if we were on the bubble by the TDL, I say hold on to everyone and try to make a push and acquire a couple more guys.

I think the Copp return is fine. I’d see a real contender offering a first round pick at the deadline for him though (with salary retention). I just see what Foligno went for last year and I have to think he’d fetch at least that.
Stas would bring more back too imo. He’s got quite a reputation around the league and is still playing quite well. I think he could bring back a 2nd. Maybe to Washington and the Jets could get one of their own seconds back.
Probably correct value on DeMelo. Although I’d hate to see him go, we saw how awful the Jets D was against MTL when he went down. I expect him to play more mins under Lowry.
All things considered though, I hope they don’t sell. The chips are clearly pushed to the middle and now that there’s a new coach it’d be incredibly disappointing if they just threw in the towel so early. We really don’t know what this team is yet with a new coach. Plus this is only really a half-ass rebuild, which I wouldn’t be a fan of. If they’re gonna sell, I’d rather it be nuclear. And that won’t happen until 2024 anyways.

We’re currently projected 11th pick. Several players are having unsustainable starts (eg Larkin shooting 2x his career average). There’s a difference between trying to limp into the playoffs and actually following Yzerman’s patience approach.

Idk, could maybe get a bit more or better for Copp but I don't think too much more, maybe a B-prospect or another pick like a 3rd or 4th rounder but that's it imo, honestly don't think they'd get anymore then that for Stastny, thought getting a second pick for DeMelo might be a bit too much.

Really eh, I don't think they'll make it and am firmly in the sell camp if they're not a playoff lock by the trade deadline.

Who are the couple guys you think they should acquire?

I don't like giving up the 2nd unless there is a commitment from him to sign in Detroit as a UFA upon expiration of his current contract. He certainly fills the dire long term need that the team has for a legitimate 2C.

I could also just be overvaluing my own players lol, maybe the trades are a bit more fair than I initially thought. I won't lie, I just can't put myself in the "sell" camp...at least not yet. They made (on paper) some big moves in the off season and I want them to see those through and give it a shot. Admittedly, I might be a little overly optimistic but after the break here I can see the Jets catching some steam and going on a bit of a roll. I also didn't have any specific players in mind, no BIG moves or anything but some nice complimentary players, especially at the 3RW spot would be nice.

He's pretty much a winger full time now... I'd love Copp here, but I'd rather Detroit waited for free agency to get him.

I actually like these trades, gives us more cap space to sign Dubois. DeMelo right now is expendable, Heinola is NHL ready right now so trading him will give us extra space for him as well. Though I would replace one of Suess or Reichel with Perfetti. I feel like, yes it was only 2 games, but Perfetti literally matched last year's point total in those games. He deserves another call-up.

If they were to trade Beau is this case, defense lines would look like this:

Morrissey-Pionk
Heinola-Dillon
Stanley-Schmidt
Kovacevic or Samberg

Yeah I guess they might be able to get more but wasn't sure and didn't feel like arguing that, to me it's kind of splitting hairs with some of the value debates, for sure I'd like more for these guys but I'd be content with these returns, can see in some of these comments already that some don't think their teams should be doing whats suggested here so if I tried to suggest a 1sr for Copp or 2nd for Stastny this thread might of melted down.. haha

I'm actually for a bigger structural rebuild but doubt Chevy would do one so I just went with a more modest trade deadline which opens up some cap space for a long term PLD extension.

I'd be very down for Scheifele, Schmidt, Dillon, Morrissey, Lowry trades and Wheeler foo if they could find an interested team, do a major overhaul, recoup some assets and get younger, just doubt the organization would do that though.

whats the vibe check on Copp and his next contract? Going to UFA, chance for him to extend? I think he would get around 5m on the open market, can winning match?
With Lowry only being Interterm HC, I wonder if he holds out unit they figure that out

Too low for Copp, but I think he’s the most likely to go between him and Stastny.
Stastny value is pretty good, but he isn’t going anywhere… we’ll re-sign him to 1yr at 2m. Perfect vet role model for the kids, he likes the Peg, and is loved by the Org., fans, and teammates.
DeMelo is bang on and, though I’d prefer to move Schmidt and his contract, that’s unlikely, so I’d do this trade.

My prediction is that he gets $5m on a longer term deal as well. Winnipeg does have the room but I think it's 50/50 that he re-signs. I do think it's a possibility but I could see him cashing in somewhere else too. Detroit would be my top guess.

5m to me seems very fair considering what guys like Lowry, Iafallo (4x4) and Laughton (3x5). Copp is better than those guys. His market comp probably is Coleman at 4.9mx6 years so 5 to 5.5 aav seems right in that fair market value. But you are right a team like Detroit or Buffalo can come in and offer him big money if they want.

if he becomes available I think the Jets can really cash in on him via trade. A 27year old big body fwd with a low cap hit this year at 3.64m at the deadline who can play anywhere in your top 9. Teams will pay a 1st for him. If Foligno can get a 1st. I think Copp can easily can get that and maybe a bit more to the right contender. Especially hes at the age that extending him, hard not to justify the value if you can get him under contract

Actually I just looked at Copp's point totals this season, I think hes worth a late first rounder. Maybe a team like the Rangers would want Copp, they need a 2C badly. Yes Copp has been playing on the wing lately, but he can play center. Then maybe sign with Detroit or someone during FA.

Detroit isn't gonna to be top 8 in the East. But Jets have a much chance at the playoffs. Doubt if the Jets are sellers unless they fall off a cliff in the next two months.
