Unless you made a mistale and meant to select Petterssen instead of Miller, Carolina reject and fairly easily. Pesce is younger, a top pairing RD and one of the best DFD in the NHL with great underlying numbers at both ends. He plays major minutes on the blueline. They've rejected deals for Pesce including players like Nylander and Laine, who are better than Miller. This is a fairly simple no.

Yeah, I was just checking, but you really think both Nylander and Laine are better than Miller? Nylander I can maybe understand, but really not sure about Laine with his defensive deficiencies

I’m not the Sabres GM….
but if i was, I’d do that deal
It’s a bit pricy, but i like Boeser & as an RFA to be we can sign him long term to be a pet of our core for the future

Why are u interested in trading him though?
I’d think you’d wanna keep him

Boeser's name has come up in trade rumors from time to time, and in case the Canucks can't come to an agreement with his camp on a long-term extension, then flip him for the best return possible, and Buffalo's cap situation isn't nearly as tight as Vancouver's is so I thought maybe they'd be a good destination for Boeser with all their young talent they are amassing over there

Easily. Laine's offensive upside alone > Miller. you say Laine's defensive issues are a major red flag (and that's true) but Miller isn't much better

Miller is one of Vancouver's marquis penalty killers, and their PK has been quite strong since the coaching change. Obviously it could only go up from being historically bad, but Miller is far better defensively than Laine is

Makes sense to me
Any idea what Boeser is supposedly looking for in a contract?

He has a 7.5 million dollar qualifying offer that the team with his rights needs to offer him in order to retain exclusive negotiating rights, and he has only one RFA arbitration year remaining, so you don't want the player taking the team to arbitration and have the arbitrator awarding Boeser a one year deal that walks him straight to UFA status. You will want to negotiate a multi year extension with Boeser at least

Vincent Trocheck kills penalties. He's still awful defensively. 5v5 defense is VERY different from short-handed defense. Niederreiter is one of the best defensive forward in hockey 5v5. He could not kill penalties to save his life.

So Trocheck can kill penalties but he isn't good at defending 5 on 5, while Niederreiter is the opposite? Am I reading that right?

My point is that being used as a penalty killer doesn't mean you're good defensively. Miller is a great example of that. Trocheck is another guy who fits this description.

KK being expendable is a huge laugh. Canes are currently grooming him to take over as 2C likely next year. The only reason he is being played in a sheltered role is to help him develop, and the progress he made was very evident in the 2 games Carolina dressed half an AHL roster. Plus, that is a garbage package to trade for Miller. I can see the Canes trying to snag Fiala, but Miller is a bit overrated.

Why would we do this?

We JUST started a rebuild and have tons of wingers. Why would we trade assets to pay a guy big bucks who will be out of his prime. If we are going to pay someone it should be a RHD

Bc he’s a goal scorer
And u act like he’s gonna be 35- he’s still an RFA after this season
He’s 24 years old dude
Younger than Olofsson & Tuch for example

He fits our timeline just fine

Also…. We have TONS of cap room
This wouldn’t stop us from paying a RH defenseman too

Miller would lead the Canes in points. He's top 10 in NHL scoring and has more points than Matthews, Nylander, and Laine. It's not a fluke either. He's been around a PPG center since joining the Canucks.

And before you say line mates - he's spent a lot of this year and last year with garbage linemates and has recently still been producing on a line with Chiasson and Pearson (they suck).

Miller way be a WAYYYYYY better 2C than KK next year.

Miller has spent 75% of his TOI this year playing in wide positions, meaning he's not a center. He is also behind Aho by some way in PPG, and his xGF/60 is down the toilet. His OZ/S it up at 65% in the last 3 years, meaning he has to be sheltered defensively. He's also barely above most of the guys you're talking about having played up to 3 games more than their teams have. Calm down.

Miller would likely be the 3LW next year for the Canes, and at this price, it's an easy pass.

Miller is overrated. And he 100% does fit that description,he's sheltered defensively and still has an xGA/60 below -2 (which is bad) and his dxG is a negative, meaning his defensive issues outweigh the good. He's overrated.

Doesn't matter even if he does have some warts defensively, bottom line is he's still a PPG player, even if he isn't a natural center, and nobody is saying he's as good as Aho, obviously he isn't. I think Miller playing 3LW is the most B.S. take I've ever heard, I'm sorry, but Miller doesn't get bumped that far down the depth chart anywhere in today's league. Maybe Svechnikov still plays above Miller, and I'd say that's iffy because I see Svech on the 3rd line with Staal a lot, Miller definitely bumps Niederreiter down to the 3rd line

Let's see some sources. Miller has taken more faceoffs than Aho this year.

Per Moneypuck 21% of his shifts start on the O-zone.

Per Moneypuck Corey Perry has a higher xG/60 than Svech so I don't know if that stats a hill you want to die on.

It's fine to not want to pay that price for Miller but to imply he would be a 3LW, and imply KK would be a better 2C is just blatant homerism.

He doesn't push Teravainen down, and he doesn't push Svechnikov down. Miller would slot onto the 3rd line.

He's a point-per-game player, but that doesn't matter if he's giving up as many goals as he's scoring. Defensive stability is essential to post-season success. Look at Carolina's ability to push deep, the Islanders, Tampa... if you're leaking chances because your forwards can't defend, you're not gonna go far, and Miller is one of those players who can't defend defensively.

Corey Perry also has a way smaller sample size. Source is NST. Hockey reference backs it up, as opposed to an xGAR heavy MoneyPuck. It also neglects QoT, QoC and xToI.

Miller's just overrated, and he's a net meh player. He's great and offensive at one end, but he's so shakey at the other that the good doesn't outweigh the bad. His dxG is a negative, even as a point per game player... let that sink in.

You aren't listening, Miller is not a defensive liability, and Teravainen plays the right wing ahead of Necas and Jarvis. Vancouver as a team overall has one of the lower GAA stats in the league, just not as low as Carolina who is at the very bottom and is the gold standard. Miller isn't Selke material but the good most definitely outweighs the bad. Stupid homer
