Deadlines and Commitments

Créé par: Knuckl3s
Équipe: 2021-22 Canucks de Vancouver
Date de création initiale: 31 déc. 2021
Publié: 31 déc. 2021
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
This trade deadline scenario is for if the Canucks are still in the playoff picture and are looking to make a run for one of the last wild card spots
Transactions
VAN
  1. Copp, Andrew
  2. Schmidt, Nate
  3. Choix de 3e ronde en 2023 (WPG)
Détails additionnels:
Canucks decide to settle on Andrew Copp as the guy to help round out the team's top nine in place of Boeser and they agree on an extension of 5 years x 4.45 million AAV before the off-season

As for Schmidt, he gets out of Winnipeg, a team that has been streaky this season while Vancouver's direction is a bit more certain. He goes back to his old team which has cleaned house from the previous regime that shipped him out of the organization in the first place. Canucks get that additional bonified top 4 D-man they've been looking for
WPG
  1. Boeser, Brock
  2. Hamonic, Travis
Détails additionnels:
Canucks are unable to come to an agreement to a long-term extension on Boeser, and they find a taker

They also send Hamonic home back to his native Manitoba

Lol Schmidt as a Canuck

Also Vancouver's direction isn't at all certain, they are just on their post coaching change win streak. they will fall back to normal soon

If you think that their win streak was just a fluke, then you must be overlooking something, this team is trying to make a sensational comeback for a playoff run, while the Jets seem to be stuck in limbo a bit

Did it happen with Chicago this season? Do you see it happening with Winnipeg or Philadelphia?

i think neither the green and bruce performances represent what this team is "normally". We were unpredictably bad to start the year, and this win streak is obviously not reproducible. I still see us winning 3 out of 5 games on average going forward, or ig having more of a .55 - .6 win pt%

still, its too early to make a weird trade, and certainly schmidt wont have interest in coming back here.

the difference is that vancouvers primary issue even before WAS coaching. There are other issues on those other teams. I say this as the Flyers and Jets are my 2nd and 3rd favorite teams. Ryan Ellis injuries have a lot to do with the Flyers instability.

Dude, I just explained otherwise about Schmidt, didn't you read it?

Just from seeing how the team is playing, they look like the have that added sense of urgency in their game and that's why they won so many games. Knowing how much ground has to be made up to get back in line with the 8 ball, I don't see why they can't keep up that mentality and continue to perform as well as they have been doing

Chicago had a 3-4 game spurt, Philly has looked much better in their recent games since the firing. So yes

Im too hesitant to see that. Time after time it has happened where a team gets a new coach, performs well for a short period of games then takes ~15 games of struggling as they learn the new system before becoming the team they are designed to be

Obviously Vancouver can't afford to have that happen if they still have playoff aspirations but they don't look like they are playing a system that is foreign to them

Look, my team did this the last 2 years in a row. New coach -> 7 game win streak -> suck for a while -> learn new system -> look really good.
Next season: New coach -> 4 wins in 5 games -> suck for a while -> learn new system -> become a top 5 team in the league analytically (too late to make a difference though)

Ah yes, I see now. Yes, your flames have at long last figured it out and look like the real deal this year. I don't suppose you'd been getting real impatient with Treliving, and that the Darryl Sutter hiring has probably saved his job

Well actually they figured it out at the tail end of last year but it was too late by then

In the last 15-20 games of the season Calgary was 1st in GF%, 7th in SF%, 4th in CF%, and 1st in xGF%. In the previous 15-20 games they were 29th in GF%, 12th in SF%, 7th in CF%, and 15th in xGF%

Either way my point being not to jump on the band wagon too fast. I do think Bruce will be a good coach for that team but he hasn't implemented his system yet. Basically after a coaching change the players go through a bit of a "high" where they play well until they run into adversity again. Start top fall back down, then they start listening to the new coach as he teaches them his new system. That usually takes around 15 games for them to really buy in and get it.

Ah, I get it now. Well, if Vancouver doesn't make the playoffs this season, I'm totally game with them being sellers at the deadline

Both teams should be sellers if the TDL was coming up soon. Even with the Boudreau Bounce, the Canucks are just a "NHL .500" team. While there is still alot of runway left in the season, both teams have ton of work to do.

I'm not sure Van's Bruce bump is going to be short lived though, obviously they won't keep winning at this pace but I wouldn’t be surprised if they keep the wins coming at a steady pace and keeps them in the wildcard race right till the end, not sure about LA and SJ but if Holland and Tippett can figure some things out the Oilers would likely snuff out any playoff chances the Canucks have, the virus wreaking havoc on lineups and schedules could have a big effect on a lot of teams though.

As for this trade I'd consider it if I was the Jets but not sure why Van would want to trade Boeser for this.

As we discussed in the trade machine post you made on this. The Jets aren't overpaying that drastically for a one dimensional winger, that is looking for a large raise that the Jets don't have the cap space for and that Copp out produces along with a healthy scratch. Very easy no from Winnipeg.

Neither of us know for sure, so there's no point attempting to convince each other of what he would like to do.
Still, Schmidt never had a chance to bond with this team. He wasn't a fit under Green's system, but he also wasn't a fit with the guys on our roster. We both know how he described his experience here - new management and internals or not, the wound is too fresh to think that he'd be beaming with joy to come back.

Why are you getting so defensive. I used the word "instability" here on purpose. Its not enough to blame the entire lack of team success, but it certainly is a factor. A team without any other DFDs, missing their best defenseman... Although there are other reasons why Philly isn't successful, it's gonna be difficult to convince me that they'd be exactly where they are right now with a healthy Ellis.

Imagine if Vancouver lost Hughes for 2 months. Sure he's better than Ellis, but are we a worse, better or equivalent team without Quinn. Same idea here.
