Yeah, you're looking at something like Stutzle, Norris, Chabot, Bernard-Docker, 2023 1st
I wouldn't do that, as good as McDavid is.
Stutzle is going to be pretty damn good himself and has several years of being much cheaper
Sure McDavid will always be the best but the difference between the 2 (considering age and contracts too) wouldn't be :
- 24 y/o 2-way workhorse smooth effortless skater D-man, signed 7 more years at 8.0
- 22 y/o 30+ goals scorer and 2-way center
- 21 y/o future reliable 2nd pairing D-man
- first round pick

If you are legitimately wanted to know his value, look at the Eichel deal. Eichel is injured and has played zero playoff games and has zero Hart or Art Ross trophies.
I think you start at 3 first round picks + 5 or 6 high end players and that gets you in the ball park. And that includes adding Barrie and Kassian in the trade.
lol ridiculous. 27 y/o Gretzky didn't return anything close to that. Lindros returned more (biggest hype in history) but still not even close and that kind of trade won't ever happen. Teams have learned since.

Seems that the consensus is I could ask for more
Good to know! Thanks guys!
More, probably but your attempt is much more realistic than anything else I have seen so far. I have been witnessing fans being out of touch with players values basically since the internet has been affordable. Look at Eichel for example and how some were saying it would take the moon.
I like McDavid and Ottawa could really use someone like that just for marketing purposes.
Your proposal already makes me think about it, maybe it's because people underrate what Stutzle and Sanderson are going to be, I don't know but even though you do this, it's not like it was easy pieces to give up (+ an EV/PK beast and a first)

Can't say I agree with THAT range, but I get your general point of being able to aim higher. As an Oiler fan, I value Steutzle higher than any two combined assets BUF got for Eichel and Sanderson more than any asset in that trade- hence my poor gauge for his value.
That's the thing, I doubt Stutzle or Sanderson were even on the table for Eichel, considering his age/contract AND health status
You know like when Miro Heiskanen wasn't for Erik Karlsson in 2018
