Personally taking Sergachev over Chychrun even with the impending need for a contract extension. Plus Sergachev is a proven playoff performer, something we don’t know about from Chychrun due to Arizona being awful, not his fault, but I’d take the sure thing in Sergachev imo who we know is fantastic and can perform when it counts. Seems risky to take a bet on Chychrun with Tampa in full win now mode.

It's not worth it. Sergachev and Chychrun are very similar talent wise. Don't just give the 1st away for 2 years at 2.2M per. It has much more value than that. Worried about money? Palat will be 31. Resign him to a team friendly deal or let him walk. Same with soon to be 34 year old Killorn after next season.

Chychrun has 3 more versus 1 (difference of 2). If you counting this year it’s 4 and 2.

Exactly Tampas window is probably closer to 4-6 more years and Chychruns contract helps them keep that window. Segachevs does not

It seems like Sergachev has been around for years but he's only 23 with one season remaining after this one on his current contract. After that, he becomes a restricted free agent with arbitration rights. Because of his age, he would be under team control for two further years, so both he and Chychrun become eligible for unrestricted free agency on July 1, 2025. In short, they have the same term.

Term and team control are two different things. Term has already been agreed upon while control doesn’t and there isn’t anything concrete until pen hits the paper. For example, Sergachev already has a higher AAV than Chychrun and a backloaded contract so his QO is 1.2 * AAV (since his base salary is 7M+). Personally I think Chychrun is a bit overrated on the boards because I’ve seen people say he’s a top 5 defensemen because last year. They don’t account for his SH%, oiSH%, and point totals % coming from a couple teams.

Im not talking about team control im talking about the contract. Because Sergachevs will need a new contract in the summer of 2023 will be probably north of 7 which Tampa can't afford. yes in short they have the same length of "control" but in terms of tampas roster makeup they dont have the space and therefore getting Chychrun at 4.5 is way better and lets them keep their current roster for longer.
