Problem with Martinez, he has 16 no trade list. Also no team on his trade list has cap and would want him without sending cap to Vegas. Yea, I agree that was an iffy resigning after a career year.

Absolutely agree. When they traded Fleury, I thought that they were going to use that cap space well. Nope! They resigned Martinez and traded for Dadonov. They’re in this mess because they failed to use cap space effectively in the off-season.

In a cap strapped league, the most important member of a team is the GM. Too often players get paid in their last contract for what they are going to do in their "waning" year. Even if Martinez contract is "fair", it just left Vegas with less flexibility. And why was Dadonov obtained....now that's a head scratcher, especially for 5m next season

Imagine the blood on my head, when the Leafs went through 10 years of total incompetence from their GMs....Ferguson, Burke and Nonis. Despite spending to the cap, and having a high priced executives one the pay roll....lousy teams, because the GMs didn't know "value" of players in cap league. Never mind a legacy of poor drafting.
Even under Lou and Dubas, there were cap mistakes that appear to limit the Leafs to make a final push to become true contenders to get out of the Atlantic division.

1. Why would Arizona be interested in any of those guys? None of them fit their timeline and the best they’d be able to do is flip them at the deadline.
2. Vegas isn’t going to trade any of them unless they have to. Think AR-15 to their head kind of deal.
3. I’ll admit Sven Baertschi sucks. But Daniil Miromanov is scoring nearly a PPG in the AHL as a defenseman and Rondbjerg is also around PPG. Neither have made a huge impact at the NHL level, but both have pretty good potential. Arizona would at least consider picking them up.

1. Yotes have Schmaltz for next 5 years. He may not be a #1 center, but his contract is prohibitive.
2. Even though Stephenson and Theodore lack NTCs (Karlsson is a no-go because of his), Theodore is a ridiculous ask (aside from 1 for 1, which is pointless for Vegas) and Stephenson gives them the center depth they’ve needed for a long time.

I’ve done no such thing. If need be, VGK adds their other 2nd and removes Baertschi, but Miromanov and Rondbjorg have a reasonably high amount of value.
