I can't see Colorado committing dollars to another defenseman with term. There are too many other balls in the air with both the entire second line and goalie tandem being ufas. If they do add a veteran instead of going with Barron, I think it would have to be a guy like Giordano on a one year deal or a pending ufa at the tdl.

I like the Pavelski signing. I think it's a long shot but like the fit.

i think a 2nd for what he brings this season is more than fair. there isn't another player in the league who's play fell this far this season. even with the retention if his play doesn't improve the avs have an overpaid 3rd pair defenseman and gave up a 2nd. the price is fair considering the risk.

imo, if the habs opt for a rebuild i think they'll keep him in place. if they go for a retool they'll bite the bullet and fire him.

All of his analytics numbers are still excellent a quarter season of bad puck luck doesnt erase a career of excellent production. He is still in the top 30 among dmen in points since the start of last year.

At that retention he is making low end #4-high #5 money he is still significantly better than that.

it's not bad puck luck, his advanced stats aren't great this season. he's playing terrible. maybe it is just a bad start but when your 35+ with a big contract you don't get a free pass. your paying for performance not potential. he's not top 30 in d scoring this season, he's 211th.. i don't want to hear anything about how is numbers are down becuase it's the habs either when he's playing 24 minutes a game while kulak, savard, and wideman are still finding ways to produce offensively.

At less than 3.25 million team will lineup to take that gamble and pay much more. 3 million for a RD on the ufa market doesnt get you a top 4 dman

that's how aging works. the decline is usually fast.

petry isn't playing at a top 4 level right now. in free agency $3.25m over 3 years for a 35+ player gets you a good player. that's almost what suter signed for and suter is way better than petry.

You cant say "thats how aging works" then throw out a example who is just starting a deal at the same age as when petrys ends.

Suter is also a left shot and its the height of ignorance to assume LD and RD have similar values. He is also the perfect example of bounceback as he wasnt good last year but at 37 bounced back to his younger self.

if he makes the team sure. he looked like he could use a bit more seasoning. i'd rather let him over develop than rush him.

suter is a freak of nature an exception to the rule. petry is not. simple as that.

If there is one constant on this site is the insane overvaluing of MTL players by MTL fans. Like literally have seen multiple threads with crap like Newhook and Byram and Kuemper for Price and parts. The number of times Bad Girard trades are posted are only surpassed by bad over pays for Drouin. There are some good MTL fans here but there are some freaking loons, that if the players were as good as their traded value MTL would be like the 3 time defending cup champion.

Look at Petry numbers last year … he didn’t scored a SINGLE goal when Ducharme replaced C. Julien. Is season went downhill from there. Ducharme is THE problem

he's also older now and doesn't have weber to play the tough minutes. it could be ducharme but it could also be age related decline. it's impossible to say one way or the other. given the habs other defensemen are finding ways to contribute offensively im leaning towards it's just a decline for petry.

What about Petry saying publicly Ducharme system has no structure lol but yeah could be one or the other. But look where the Habs are right now with Allen playing God like.
