Montreal has no reason to dump cap. Especially if it means paying to do so.

You are 3 million over the cap next year with 11 players signed. Even if Weber is on LTIR you have 4 million to sign 13 players. Even if price is too you have 14.5 million to sign 14 players

And they are sellers this year, and likely rebuilding over the summer. Cap will free up. We dont have to give away Armia and pay 2 picks to do it.

Your not reading the chart correctly on the team page. the $85,727,142 is spread over 20 players including Weber there is only 11 of them CURRENTLY on the roster. The injured players are on the cap amount but not the roster amount.

Also considering they likely move a couple other termed players at the deadline (toffoli Drouin) they wont even be remotely close to the cap. The habs arent paying any apreciable amount to get out from any contract theres no point.

You would have to trade players with term left for it to matter for next years cap. Who are those players?

Players rumoured to potentially be on the market with term:
Price, Allen, Gallagher, Petry, Savard, Drouin, Hoffman, Lehkonen (RFA), Toffoli.

Of the ones not mentioned that wouldnt surprise me are:
Armia, Dvorak, Edmundson, Byron.

Habs fans keep posting "Rebuild" teams, there is a reason for that.

Leafs have roughly 5m to sign a few key player... MAINLY their actual starting goalie lol.

Liljegren
Kase
Sandin
Campbell (NEED TO SIGN)
Spezza (700k)
Mikheyev
Woll (ideal backup not PM)

id say trading a 2nd to dump unnecessary salary is worth it Esp when the "starting goalie" currently has played 3 games ( "starting goalie") and has a 4.13gga and .880s%

oh wow, three games with an injury in most of them, wow, yeah. totally his career there.
So no, the leafs are not paying anyone to take a goalie who would be their starter. sell him for cheap? sure, but not paying.

buddy PM has had a terrible year and is making 3m+.

Tokarski last 2 years averaging around .904 s% and 3.5 gaa
Jones has improved while also playing for a terrible Philly team....
Pm is on one of the best defensive teams in the NHL putting up terrible numbers....i gave you literally what you asked for ... sorry gotta pay to cap relief/ dump a player having a terrible year

yeah, it's almost like 3 games in a season with an injury is a hilariously bad way to judge a goalie.
Tokarski hasnt been an NHLer for his entire career, Jones has played like 3 good games and has been getting crushed since. so no, they are not better options.
Khudobin has been bad to horrible for two years, is older and costs only 50k less. not a better option
Halak is a back up at this point in his career. Not a better option
Anderson probably retires, not a better option
Desmith is bad, a backup and probably not available because the Pens need 2 goalies too, not a better option
Wedgewood is also worse, and a backup, so not a better option

so no, none of these guys are what i asked for. none of these guys check all of the boxes i asked for and most of them dont even check two of the four criteria

lol yes bc a guy who has played 3 games in the NHL this year bc of injuries and the games he has played he's sucked..... just SCREAMS starting goalie / no cap dump. Awesome analysis . Typical Leaf fan "my guy doesnt suck bc insert excuse.... but insert players name sucks (better stats) bc insert excuse. Leaf fan blueprint for conversation on this site

PM is a backup at this point and given how well Woll has played i would say hes their 3rd best option.... YES teams that are in seriosu need of a goalie will easily look past him since there are other goalies available... and his numbers are lackluster, they can keep him but will likely lose out on a Vez finalist ... poor cap managment but we are talking baout the LEafs so yeah

yeah, it's almost like the guy played half a game, got hurt during it, then tried to play another and clearly wasnt healed so he didnt play great and then had another game like 2 months later where he actually looked really good for most of it. Context is fun, especially when you refuse to acknowledge it for guys like tokarski and jones. Typical leaf hater "all other players are better because insert excuse...but leafs player sucks because another excuse" Leaf hater blueprint on this site

hater i said they are one of the best defensive teams in the league....lol "context" i love this okay lets look at the much improved game .....

"yeah, it's almost like the guy played half a game, got hurt during it, then tried to play another and clearly wasnt healed so he didnt play great and then had another game like 2 months later where he actually looked really good for most of it."

game 1 ....3g on 26 shots vs sens... .885%
game 2.... (hurt?) 4g on 31 shots vs wings .871%
GAME 3.... 4g on 35shots vs Hawks .886% WOW OMG WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT.... so good. geez my eyes are WIDE open now lol
"had another game like 2 months later where he actually looked really good for most of it."

tokarski has had really solid numbers... comparable to guys like Samsonov (people view highly) while playing for one of the worse teams in the NHL. Not rocket science lol
Jones... Philly has allowed the 7th most goals in the NHL and his numbers are respectable given how awful that team is....yeah both at this point would be improvements/ lateral moves while being cheaper and costing the team nothing. PM is a BACKUP atm... until he shows he can stop a puck

dude if you're gonna pretend guys like tokarski and jones are better options than Mrazek, yeah, you're hating. And yes, context. that includes using the word improvement for some reason without context.
So lets go over those games!
game 1. 885 in 40 mins because he got hurt in the 2nd period and everyone knows that playing less than a full game juices numbers one way or the other.
game 2 871, still hurt, clearly, went on the IR almost immediatly after the game
game 3, first game in 2 months 886. played well for MOST of the game as stated, clearly still shaking off the rust. It's almost like the first game back after a groin injury is rarely gonna perform at the top of your ability, and it was probably one of the worst games that his team played all year.
context!

the dude could have three shutouts in those games and it wouldnt mean anything, if you're drawing any conclusions off of 2.75 games then you're either working your own narrative or just wanna talk trash

minutes played didnt factor at all into my numbers...i just used shot face and goals allowed. his ga/60 would more than likely be higher but thats a weird stat to use. MY POINT is that goalie , unless elite, have very little value ...so a goalie thats struggling / not playing well (atm) would need payment to move. esp if his cap hit is 3m+

and i never said the leafs would get a haul for him or anything, simply that plenty of bottom feeding teams would easily take a shot at him for a late pick or whatever. Buffalo literally traded for Malcom Subban who was a bad backup in the AHL last month

do Future Considerations even count as trading? seriously asking bc i was interested in what his value would be... you could be right but i think cap hit comes into play. Will be interesting to see but imo i would pay to dump him if that meant 100% being able to sign Campbell... that guy was a steal. i have him as in my top 3 for Vez favorites
