If they move Mayfield this year they are looking for a 1st since he has another 1 year on his deal.

Mayfield is like the Defenseman version of Blake Coleman when he was traded to Tampa, his contract makes him worth at least a 1st imo

I could see that being the ask; I went with a hockey trade to make the cap work. Sundqvist is no slouch and while the Blues like to spend 1sts, the players they've acquired (ROR, Schenn, Bouwmeester) are/were a lot more impactful than a guy like Mayfield so that would probably be a deal-breaker. The Lightning were in a little different spot wrt the Coleman/Goodrow trades, they were looking for that over-the-top factor, Blues would just be looking for more balance between F and D (and have to balance the cap in whatever moves they make).

Nothing against Sundqvist but the Isles have too many bottom 6 forwards already. The Isles would be looking for the 1st only as they have him for another year on a great deal that does not affect their cap and he is a productive player.

I'd love to have him, but there's only so much cheap young talent capital worth giving up to get him for a team just starting to rebuild the prospect pool that's already gonna scrape the cap for a while. And I'm not down with the Sunny trade. Besides, the Isles definitely pass and somebody else will beat that Chych offer.

Take Ellis out and I think it's fair

Blues aren't giving up a first for a #3RD nor is he worth that much.
