Is Gallagher toast? Is it his contract? I feel like the Isles would like him, he plays our style of hockey. Just not sure what it would take. Bailey would need to be included for cap purposes, but his contract is only $5x2 left after this season vs. Gallagher's $6.5x5

No Way, Last thing Ottawa needs is a Declining almost 30 yr old player with a long contract to tie up cap for the contacts needed in the next 4 years.

Ha. Haha. Hahahahaha. Hahahahahahaha. Do you honestly think that the Leafs trade their second best player to a divisional rival for THAT? Hahahaha

    1. Gallagher is in decline because the Montreal Canadiens are in decline.

If he goes to a better team, he becomes a better player.

    2. Cap space is the least of Ottawa's concerns.

    3. Gallagher's contract was a good signing when it happened.

    https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/384901/1

    4. Gallagher is the closest thing that Montreal has to Brady Tkachuk and he's everything that you'd want in a hockey player.

    5. Gallagher is a right shot and would solve most, if not all, of our problems at RW.

    6. Gallagher reached 25 goals a season or was on pace for 25 goals a season during most of his career.

    7. All it costs is a 5th round pick for 2024.

Gallager would be perfect in Ottawa. If the habs actually offered that (would they 100% would not), the sens would be all over that.

Wild decline. If we need to trade Dumba, there will be 30 other franchises asking about him, which means a 2nd round pick plus Christmas leftovers isn't going to cut it.

I agree, but half the Leafs trades are trying to get rid of Marner and blaming him for the post-season. wink

Seriously though, the 2022 Carolina 1st goes to Arizona.
Don't know if OP intended that to be Montreal's pick, but does a good shot at Wright change the perspective?

Top 3 pick + good chance of a lottery pick next season, and Norlinder, Xhekaj on top.

I'd like to Ottawa to take that "gamble" with Gallagher's contract but don't think they would, he has a lot of mileage on his body.

Financially healthy teams would do it, worse case scenario you burn a bit of money with a buyout or something.

A veteran who "cares" like Gallagher would be good to have on a young rising team. There's just not enough quality vet

They have value, if you retain money (for some you'd have to retain close to 50%)

Toffoli, Edmundson, Allen and Chiarot do not need retention

I'd say Drouin and Hoffman are on the fence, teams might be scared at term though
