Very intriguing. I think Colorado is still a year or two away from being in a position where moving Girard makes sense, but they certainly have to think about this one.

Unless Girard all of a sudden finds another gear in his performance, that trade is a massive overpayment. Especially after factoring in that COL is going to need cap space for MacKinnon, Byram, a starting goalie, and 9 others players just to fill out the roster.

Girard is good, but he's not Chychrun. You'd definitely get a mid/late 1st rounder, and maybe a B prospect (Zadina and Berrgren are higher than B prospects). But 4 pieces for Girard is definitely not value.

I like Girard but Red Wings decline. Yzerman likes big skilled defensemen. Generally speaking.

For Chychrun yes I'd make that trade. But I doubt Arizona would.

A couple opinions. You undervalue Girard (and his team friendly contract) if you put his value at a mid-1st a B prospect. You aren't the only one though, as he is always undervalued around the league. Dude does everything, and all but three of his points are at even strength. He's exactly what you want from a #2/3, who isn't going to get PP1 time.

Also, Colorado doesn't need to move Girard. They aren't in that much cap trouble (at least not now). Maybe they move him when Byram needs to get paid. That isn't now or next year though. It would take a big return to get him in the off season. They wouldn't consider a first and B prospect.

It depends on who you ask. I personally don't think so but I also think it's too much to give up. At this rate the Wings probably won't make the playoffs but they will be in the wild card race and with their luck in the lottery they can't afford to give away that much for one player. Yzerman has done really well with what he has had to work with Seider and Raymond will be in the top 3 of their draft classes but you can't expect that with a pick in the teens. I really like Hertl but I think on a line with Vrana could really spark Zadina. Without Chychrun I can see them signing McNabb but won't he want more money and term. Do they need to sign a big name to backup Nedeljkovic?
