BUF shouldn't be going for Fiala. I don't see him re-signing for term on there.

Mitts looked like a completely different player once Granato took over the team last year. It wouldn't be a bad gamble for MN. It'll be a high 2nd rounder and low cost center with good upside coming back.

Right, I mean they have the money and I think this roster is a little closer than people thing. Replace the vets with a stronger group with the young guys taking another step and they can be dangerous pretty quickly

Buffalo shouldn't trade for Fiala, who didn't do a long-term deal in the summer, because he was scared of being sent to Buffalo for Eichel. He isn't going to sign with you guys. And for the trade itself, the Wild decline anyway. Mittelstadt is not as dynamic as Fiala, and a 2nd round pick is not going to change that, especially since it's in 2023 and won't make a difference in years.

Is philly pick in 23 a high 2nd rounder?

It's a random 2nd, likely top-45. Mitts is the prize, not the draft pick. Getting a young center for Fiala is what MN needs.

Where did that come from? All I saw over the summer was the Wild we're hesitant to offer him a long-term deal, everything I read said Fiala wanted a longer contract.

And really who else are they going to get as a center? Fans on here keep saying Fiala is only going if a top 6 center is coming back without giving suggestions on which team is willing to move a top 6 center or how do you resign Fiala if they don't move him? Mittelstadt and a 2nd isn't a bad offer. He improves the team immediately and still could develop further.

My source is basically "trust me bro" and various smaller nuggets of info. But basically, where that came from is from the fact Fiala wasn't able to get a NTC before 2023-24, when the new deal would have started buying UFA years. One of the reasons his asking price was so high was the fact that Guerin could have signed him to a, let's say, 7-year extension and then traded him where-ever. Then Fiala would just have had to play for a rebuilding franchise for years.

His asking price was high because it was well publicized that Guerin was going to make Kaprizov the highest AAV in Wild history off of 62 games. Fiala hasn't shown he can consistently produce on a larger sample size, why would Guerin offer him a bunch of money long-term with NTCs? Russo (who is a lot more connected than either of us) wrote numerous times that Fiala wanted term, it was Guerin who didn't want to sign him that long. Sorry, you're really reaching to connect this to him not wanting to play for Buffalo while trying to play it off as fact.

As I said, I'm not playing it as a fact. It's pure speculation, like any negotiation. But it is a fact that Fiala wants to win. And he wouldn't be doing a lot of that in Buffalo. Russo actually reported that Fiala opted to take just one year instead of two (and become a UFA in 2023) in arbitration because he wanted the Eichel-saga to end before committing for any longer than a year.

I'm not. It's speculation based on reports and the imagination of a fan. Nothing to be pressed about. My main point was that Fiala unlikely stays in Buffalo long-term if traded there. I'm sure you agree with me there.
