I don’t see why the Canucks would move Miller for a rental, a winger having a down year, a 4th liner, and a 2nd

I know it looks odd, but since they could really use more help on their blueline, I think they might consider kicking the tires on Klingberg if they feel they can make a post-season birth. Jim Rutherford has talked about making money in money out trades for Vancouver at this time, and I think they might be willing to flip Miller for a return like this that way they at least don't lose him for nothing. Considering the contract demands Miller could have when his contract gets closer to expiring, Vancouver might not want that looming over their heads. I know Gurianov is having a down year, but he might benefit via a change of scenery, and his age fits Vancouver's competitive timeline. Glendening would also be useful to them in that Vancouver doesn't have a right-handed Centreman on their team. Vancouver also doesn't have a 2nd rounder this upcoming draft

I don't hate the Pens trade. I like it on some levels, but I also don't understand it from VAN's perspective.

Okay, so basically Vancouver sheds some of its scoring exchanging Boeser for both Zucker and Heinen, with Zucker in particular being in need of a change of scenery, while they upgrade on defense exchanging Myers for Marino

On the same note, I’m not sure why Dallas would trade a young (misused) winger & a 2nd for a guy that’s likely hitting Free Agency after next season, especially when they are getting ready to enter a rebuild.

The Canucks & Stars are not good trade partners here.

Ill say this, it's an interesting AGM. What I like most about it is you have created a team that is meant to make the playoffs now without trading any picks.

That is massive improvement of what is currently a terrible RD, however the offense takes a beating with two thirds of their first line being moved.

I don't think I would make the Miller trade, reason being is I don't think it makes the team a contender and Klingberg is essentially a rental. If Vancouver is trading Miller I would like to get some young promising assets back that will benefit the team long term. The Boeser trade I like more.

They might if they think it better equips them for a playoff run

I personally disagree in that I think they could make some pretty encouraging money in money out exchanges. I think guys like Faksa, Glendening, Raffl, Hakanpaa, and Gurianov would be good fits in Vancouver, and guys like Miller, Boeser, Myers, Poolman, Hamonic, and even Pearson would fit well in Dallas

I would look to get some high end prospects in return for Miller too, but if no other team is willing to fork over that kind of return, if they willing only to either trade high draft picks or other good roster players, then I'm not going to hold my breath. And if you think the right side is that weak, then I guess you haven't heard how well Myers is playing

Obviously you take the best offer you can get for an asset, but I have a hard time believing that a player of Miller's caliber wont be able to return some pretty darn good futures, especially since he has a very reasonable cap hit with another year remaining on his contract.

The RD is the teams Achilles heal. Myers has been playing better than he has in some time but I don't think he has all of a sudden reformed himself after 30 games. Players have outlier games and seasons throughout their career and I'm not sold that after 30 games this season he wont at some point revert back to his old consistent level of play. Myers is third pair NHL player who is currently playing at a second pairing level, but the Canucks lack a true first and second pair RD, that's why I like your Boeser trade as it addresses one of those issues.

Thanks, and with Myers, it looks obvious that he's instantly benefitting from playing under Bruce Boudreau's more vertical type of system, so that's why I don't think he's liable to revert back to his older self, I believe this is his new standard getting a fresh start under a new coach and system. It's not like Myers has suddenly or unexpectedly found another gear in his game, there is an obvious cause and effect to point to. I think their current defense group when healthy certainly isn't the worst in the league, but it could certainly be better of course

I guess I've felt I should back off asking on certain future assets like Braden Schneider because fans of the teams who own those prospects will get upset when top prospects get put in trade proposals, and we haven't heard many trade rumours suggesting Miller being dealt for any specific prospects

They could really use a stronger right-side D-man, they aren't going to get one for cheap

That's true but you've traded our best RHD. Myers has played great since BB took over as coach.

Then maybe Myers doesn't get dealt if he continues to play the way he has, but I think there is a good chance one of Vancouver's right-side D-men gets exchanged for a potential upgrade

Faksa, Glending, Raffl, & Hakanpaa should all be shopped by Dallas. They are not a part of the team's younger core moving forward. You don't under go a rebuild around those kinds of players. Gurianov, you do. Dallas is getting ready to undergo a rebuild that will also bring in a new head coach. As one of the most misused players in the NHL, Dallas would be foolish to give up on a 24 year old that can shoot the puck the way he does.

Guys like Myers & Hamonic do nothing for the Stars given the team's current direction. If you're a rebuilding team, you don't trade away assets for two 31-year old defensemen. Poolman, sure maybe, but at that point Dallas might as well just keep Hakanpaa. Boeser is a solid piece, but likely out of the Stars price range & Miller isn't worth giving up the assets it would take to get him, especially since he's going to be a UFA after next season.

Stars need to be looking to trade their older vets for younger players/picks/prospects, not the other way around.
