  1. Drouin, Jonathan (1 500 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Happens at draft. Despite himself, Drouin is nonetheless on pace for about 45-50 points on a bad team. Arizona has 3 forwards under contract for the 2022-2023 season, unlinely they'll sign 12 UFAs. They take a chance that Drouin finds his game a bit better in the desert away from pressure and spotlight. They also realize that, if things don't work out, its one year and Drouin can be flipped with more retention at the 2023 TDL. The 4th is conditional on Drouin playing at least 50 games for the Coyotes, if not, the pick is not exchanged

yotes decline. no one is paying a 2nd+ to take drouin at the draft. just take his $5.5m into free agency.

I'm a believer that if you retain 50% on Drouin you can get a 1st for him. Not often you can get a 50 point player at a cap hit under 3 million. It also works for MTL because they only retain for a year of they choose to start getting rid of other, longer contracts 2023 off season

I like these deals, and I really like your draft picks. But I doubt Arizona are the ones buying a rental.

Arizona might for reasons of the 50% retention and that they have only 3 NHL forwards under contract next season and they'll need to sign or trade for at least 9 more. I realize they are in perpetual tank mode but they do have to dress a few players and meet the cap floor, and they may even figure that they could play him top line minutes, perhaps boost his value, and flip him for a better return in 2023. He is a pure skill player who struggles with pressure and spotlight, playing in a system, and playing with consistency. Fortunately, none of those things would be required of him in Arizona and it might be the only team he could sort of thrive on. I don't think its the craziest scenario. Nor is a 2nd round pick 3 years from now some sort of outrageous haul.

az will have no shortage of cap dump offers where they get picks instead of trade picks. if they try and flip him they risk an injury. there are better options out there for az.

A 50% retained salary doesn't really help them meet the floor. They may be more interested in a player like Lucic after Calgary pays his bonus since he would only cost their ownership $1m for a $5.25m cap hit. That's the type of player they'd be interested in to ice a full roster and reduce costs. Drouin at 50% retained would be good for a team like Minnesota who needs to fit in players who can score, but won't have a ton of cap space to make it all work.

That makes sense. To Minnesota then, retained, for a future pick, maybe with a few conditions on it depending on how well or poorly he performs. Lucic to Arizona makes a ton of sense for next summer

I see Vancouver as a more likely destination for Drouin if he is moved the problem is going from a late 1st to 9th OVA in value so lets assume we retain 2 mil on Drouin and add the Oilers pick from Chiarot trade (assume it is in about 20th spot) then we add Tuch does this get us to 9th IDK but it would be worth a look to see what Vancouver would want to add to Drouin + 20th OVA for 9th OVA maybe a deal could be struck.

Yeah, for Minnesota it depends on if they'd see Drouin as a winger or center (which at this point probably should be a winger). They probably won't need any wingers unless they trade a few away that they have.
