Any trade involving the leafs that has the leafs retaining is an automatic non-starter.

Don't listen to these fools, you're getting a top notch player at a bargain price!

Nah seriously though, CGY doesn't do that. TOR will be stuck with him unless they pay someone to take him. Which is fine, his game has improved as the season has rolled on.

“I can’t believe this has happened,” Cherry said, making the comparison between the 5-foot-11, 170-pound Nylander and the 6-foot-3, 235-pound Ritchie.

“What they need is big tough wingers,” Cherrry said of the Leafs. “They only impact guy they have drafted is Wendel Clark in the last 18 years.”

So, @fire_brad_treliving...you're basically getting Wendel Clark here.

(I wish that the Leafs had of taken him so that the Ducks ended up with Willy or Ehlers flushed cheeks)

Well, he got his wish. Ritchie plays for TOR. And it is crystal clear on who the better pick was.

Good thing people stopped listening to him a long time ago.

Brett doesn't deserve to be in our current lineup, and his brother isn't much better but is somehow making 2.5mil, he's a waste of cap space. They both top out as 4th liners, and we have several better 4th liners already (Lucic, Richardson, Lewis, Ruzicka, Gawdin, etc.). Pitlick has 0 goals this year and I still like him more than both Ritchies lol

I'm going against the grain here and going to say that trading away Ritchie is a bad idea for the Leafs. I agree with everyone that he hasn't been the 2.5M player they were hoping for, but trading him away at negative value is a terrible idea. At least mid-season. I realize that an entirely healthy Leafs roster may force Dubas hand to deal someone to make the cap work and I'll concede that Ritchie might make most sense should that be the case. BUT I think trading him away simply because he's not playing as well as we've all hoped is reckless. The knock on the Leafs lack of playoff success has always been that the team lacks grit and size. Enter Ritchie, he checks both those boxes. I say, his play has been good enough to be on the roster and come playoff time I want to see him out there as his upside far outweighs Clifford at this point.

Bring on the criticism but that's my take!
