Bear and Jones were drinking buddies who dabbled in other things too. They both needed to get shipped out this is serious hockey now.

Bean has been a pleasant surprise. He’s cooled down a bit after a hot start, but I still see him as a good middle-pairing guy.

Either way, it’s nuts how well he handled a top-pairing role out of the blue with Werenski the way he did.

Bear is playing 1RD minutes on a stanley cup contender... to say he needed to be shipped out is harsh

Because you can get an equivalent player for something less than a 22-year-old top-4 RHD?

Carolina was not rebuilding team they were not going trade useful pieces for Picks and/or a Prospect (other the fact that they traded Ned for a 3rd round pick)

Which is why Holland overpaid - he, like you, was stuck on one specific player. And why I wrote "an equivalent player", you can get good 3rd line wingers in free agency every year for about the same money and you don't have to send out a 22-year-old top-4 RHD.

He wasn't worthy of being a top 4 d-man last year. You stay up till 4am partying with Caleb jones and no wonder why both their games fell off a cliff last year.

He should have got a decent 3C IMO but I think Holland also wanted to cash out his Ethan Bear stock and Dave Tippett put his foot down and said we can't have all young defensemen the mistakes will kill us.

That's no reason to move both of them.

Underlyings suggest both players had solid seasons, and were top 4 D men on the team last year in that regard. Tough take...

Source: Trust me bro

Also I don't know what that has to do with how they play on the ice?? If they're playing fine on the ice I couldn't care less about what they do in their free time

Bear has been way better though. As I showed in the post above, a third liner (who's better) could have been traded for at a much lesser cost. There's no reasonable explanation to give up a young top 4 RD for a third liner.

He's always had the potential to be great, he's just been stuck behind a stacked d-core in Carolina. I knew whatever team got him for a 2nd would love him.
