I used to be a big Fleury defender when he was still on the team. I knew he struggled every playoffs but I just didn't know who they could go after as a replacement. The guy was a 1st overall pick, I always had hope he would get better eventually but unfortunately it never happened. Looking back, I realized how overrated he was, outside of a strong 2007/08 Stanley Cup run, he was carried by the skater group every season. The Penguins from 2009-2014 had a 54% xGF share yet had the worst GSAx in the league every year. Even with average goaltending, they would've won the cup at least once during that period.

Right, so Mario put up with a garbage goalie for 13 years. It's just absurd. And I bet Sid, Malkin, Letang, and every other pens player that ever played with Fleury would tell you that you are being absurd. He is a hall of fame goalie and you say he is garbage.

He was a 1st overall pick with a cup, even though it was undeserved. Teams don’t want to move on from players like that. I think the fact that he got replaced by an average goalie in Murray speaks volume about how poor he was.

Sure, an average goalie that will be in the HOF. And the Pens took 13 years to figure out how average he was. And then he goes on to win the Vezina last season because he is garbage. You obviously know more about hockey and hockey talent that Mario Lemieux and company. LOL.
