Description

If I didn't touch a UFA contract it's either good value or not enough of a difference to matter. Not saying all of these contracts are bad, just that Lou could've gotten better value for them. Also getting rid of the Hickey contract, not a bad signing at the time but it turned sour so quickly I'll give the Isles a pass and just nix it. Only bringing back players that had to go due to cap shortage. Also, I know Lou didn't sign Clutterbuck, still gonna change it anyway.

As bad as some of these contracts are, you had to give them more money to stay after how bad the franchise was for years. And now we are stuck with them for years

Nelson has been worth his contract and I’m pretty sure he signed after Kevin Hayes (7.1 x 7) . Lee was getting offered 9 mill on the open market , he was never going to sign for 6.2 mill.

The Leddy trade was good, I wouldn’t take him back.

Lou didn't sign Clutter and he is in the final year of his deal, you cannot just reduce that.

I'd agree on Nelson, it's a good contract, but I feel like Lou could've gotten a little better for him if it wasn't for Hayes signing his contract (imo he's overpaid). Lee is good, but I wouldn't pay any more than his current $7mil AAV if I were a GM, that's my absolute max. The Leddy trade was definitely good, for both the Wings and the Isles. He'd definitely still be gone if Toews was still an Islander, but he was a cap casualty, so I put him in.

As I said in the description, "I know Lou didn't sign Clutterbuck, still gonna change it anyway". There's no expiring UFA rule, my only goal was to show what the Islanders may have looked like if their contracts were slightly better to allow for less cap casualties.

Nelson was coming off a 25 goal , 53 pt season and he’s a center. The only way he was getting less AAV was if Lou went 7-8 years.

Lee wanted 8 x 8 year and Lou wanted 6-6.5 x 5 , they settled at 7x7 on the 1st day of free agency.

Leddy should have been traded 2 years ago, but Trotz chose Leddy over Toews which was a bizarre decision. Lou should have never let his coach have that much influence.

To me it all comes back to JGP. He's a good player, but signing him meant losing Toews. Essentially they traded a 1st and Toews for JGP and a 2nd.

Yes they took a shot at the Cup with the JGP trade, and I can respect that. In 20-20 hindsight though, it's tough to say they aren't in better shape with Toews and Greig in the system vs JGP and whoever the 2nd turn into.

If Lou Signed Panarian to a 12 million dollar contract Lee wouldn't be resigned, unless trading Boychuck or Leddy at the time. Lee forced the team to sign 7X7 with no other first line left wing options else out there

I just wouldn't have kept Palmieri and used that money on a defenseman.

Really I wish we never traded Toews, just gave him the deal he got with COL, and traded Leddy a year earlier. But I get why Lou did what he did.

Overall he's done a good job.
