I think it was made due to the fact the Marlies got enough enforcers (once they got Clifford back) and need proper Dman. As man there defense has been awful this season

Ryan Hardy had Chad Krys with the USNTDP so there is some familiarity there. I guess they wanted to get Gabriel a shot in the NHL, might be easier with CHI. But the Marlies suck a D because of Moore IMO

Well Krys showed some promise but I'm pretty sure injuries killed his career, he's still a prospect for about another month until I switch the prospect cut-off date to January 1st 2022, then he'll be too old

It will be interesting to see. Maybe Krys figures it out with the marlies or just becomes a placeholder. Still with Toronto having Ritchie, Clifford, Simmonds and Clune (ahl) Gabriel's time was coming to an end as I knew once we got Clifford he or someone else was out the door.

He is a fill in for the Marlies, they have already had to call up two Growlers with all the injuries lately. I mean, I don't expect much, he has been healthy scratched 5 times with Rockford, already being passed over by CHI prospects. He is a depth.

Yep, issue is per a reports Chayka is in heavy considerations to potentially becoming GM once his suspension is done Dec 31.

There are some other candidates they are considering like Bergevin but it seems Aquilini has his eye on Chayka. Dont know why but I guess maybe he wants to try making moves based on analytics.

Then again his draft record sucks so... Bergevin in my eyes probs the safest bet for now

Can we kill the idea that Benning is good at drafting? Excluding 2014 (I don’t know how much influence he had on that one because he was just hired), he has drafted exactly 2 players from outside the first round who have played 20+ NHL games. One is Gaudette, who was ruined and swapped for a 4th liner, and the other is Hoglander, who is one of their better players DESPITE management/coaching, not because of it. Four of his five first round picks since 2015 have been in the top 10, and he still managed to screw one of them up (Juolevi). If we include 2014, he used the 6th overall pick on Virtanen (underperformer BEFORE his sexual assault allegations), McCann was a good pick but he had no confidence in him and dealt him for Gudbranson (and added multiple picks as a sweetener oof), Demko I’ll give him I guess but all goalies are voodoo, Tryamkin was given an illegal ELC and then left for Russia, and Forsling was dealt for a depth D that played 17 career games for the Canucks. That’s not a great record. If you’re being extremely generous you can say he was good at drafting in 2014, and sucked at actually developing those prospects always, but like, I think him being called a good drafter is overblown seeing how he’s had exactly 2 impactful selections outside of the top 10 in the last 6 years (and one of them was Boeser, still in the 1st round of arguably the deepest draft in NHL history).
