On the topic of Gorton, I've always kind of thought that his time with the Ranger's was a bit overrated. Not that he's a bad GM or anything, just that some favorable things happened for him that maybe leads to his perception being a bit more flattering than reality BUT, can we talk about the fact that this guy basically built what we came to know as the Boston Bruins in about 3 & 1/2 months.

From the end of March of 2006 to mid-July of the same year, Gorton served as interim GM of the Bruins. During that time he oversaw a draft which produced Phil Kessel (I hear they later flipped him for decent return), Milan Lucic, and Brad Marchand, signed free agents Marc Savard and some Guy named Zadeno Chaira or something, and just for sh*ts and giggles he decided to get a trade in there and called up John Ferguson Jr to make about a goalie swap that would go on to haunt Leaf fans to this day (Rask for Raycroft for those who don't know).

Way to make the most of your time.


He did really well in Boston, which isn’t brought up enough nowadays, NYR was mixed but he’s overall got a good resume but needs to do really well in MTL to establish himself. It’s a do or die situation in Montreal and similarly for him.

Refer to my previous comment above - I think it’s on both parties. He’s not free of blame but neither is the team (as to why I put “mishandled?”, so I could see myself being wrong there). Wouldn’t count it as an L for the habs tho but still not a spot to be happy about.

Can you let me know both teams playing/ stand outs (assuming you’re catching it) (looks like Sharks are pummelling them on the shot chart, but Hills beat by one he should have by the sounds of it).

So Marc hired the guy who sucks and didn’t fix it even with multiple failures? I like him as a GM but that is still entirely your fault if the guy you hired blows it, as the Gm you take that responsibility on. Yeah it’s not “your direct fault” but it’s still your fault in terms of responsibility and you’re responsible for that branch under you. Things went poorly under his supervision.

So I stand by that this is still your fault as a GM. Who cares what he says if you look at the track record. You’re the head of the snake.


Read my full comment. I did say that it was Bergevin's fault for giving Timmins that responsibility and then failing to fire him when he wasn't good enough,

Haven't checked recently, but as of the Domi-Anderson swap, Montreal got the most points out of that pick in the entire draft.
