The Scheifele speculation is a result of this spot on Winnipeg Sports Talk. The Scheifele stuff starts around the 20 minute mark.

Jarnkrok and Johansson could probably help this teams crap bottom 6 but they aren't worth parting with a 1st round pick for.

There is no way the Wings, who are rebuilding, would trade Larkin for Scheifele and Wheeler.

1st you just asked the Wings to take on more than 25 million in cap over 3 years.

Wheeler is 35 and Scheifele is 28 both older than Larkin who is 25.

Both are having bad starts to the season whereas Larkin is having a good season with Bert and Raymond.

Nothing in this trade makes sense from Wings perspective.

Thanks for that link, I gave it a listen and some harsh but refreshingly blunt analysis of some guys that escaped criticism for far too long by Winnipeg media.

Funny to hear Hustler even suggest trading Scheifele, I get it was a different time but if anyone ever suggested that when he was on 1290 he would've scoffed at it.
And what'd he say for Dubois' next contract, $9M?
Maybe let's get through the season first.. Lol
Who knows, maybe that'll be the rate for him on a long term deal but as of now he just doesn't look like a $9M player to me, he's good but not that good imo or at least so far anyway.

I find it crazy that in all the discussions around the Jets that it rarely gets much mention that they get almost nothing from their bottom six. I get the majority of the discussion is about Maurice, Wheeler, Scheifele, Ehlers, etc and the top 6 needs to do the heavy lifting on the scoreboard but the Jets get little to nothing from their bottom six and that barely gets a second thought, it's like a forgone conclusion that the Jets 3rd and 4th lines won't score much, aren't expected to chip in and that's totally okay for some reason.. Lol.. Good teams get scoring throughout their lines but not the Jets and somehow that's fine, I don't get it.

The disappointing thing is that the Jets have the personnel to get scoring from their entire forward group. If the Jets re-distributed forward pairings and re-allocated minutes things could be better in my opinion. The following is close to what they had in the St. Louis game (Stastny was injured):

Dubois - Connor
Ehlers - Stastny/Copp
Scheifele - Wheeler
Stastny/Copp -Lowry

They can number the lines however they want but if the minutes are distributed better over the top 3 lines, then that would blunt some player grumblings.

Not much if any, but 3 years of Scheifele plus a 3rd is worth more than 2 years of Larkin. Wouldn't you agree?

With the way/chemistry Larkin has with Bertuzzi + Raymond and the lack of production of Scheifele (also non-existence of defensive game whatsoever) + age difference + taking on a cap dump ehhh I wouldn’t agree with you. I’d much rather spend some $ on Hertl/Trocheck and run them with Larkin to finally have two top 6 centers.

Yeah, I can see the Wings point of view. From the Jets point of view the step down in skill from Scheifele to Larkin is pretty large and then you have to factor in the extra year of contract. Calling Wheeler a cap dump is a bit of hyperbole, because he is still a decent overall player, that the Jets don't have a ready replacement for. He's just not an $8 mil player.

Team needs/direction wise, I agree that it doesn't make sense for Detroit to get older at this point.

Wheeler is 35 and signed for 3 more years at 8.25M. It’s only going to get worse for him with his style of play. Sure he’s an NHL player currently but one can’t honestly say he’s worth that price tag or even close to it imo. To me that’s a cap dump as weren’t not talking about someone that live up to that contract and isn’t a fit for a team like Detroit or even current contender. We just aren’t great trading partners because obviously PLD is off limits.

Yes, the Jets and Wings definitely aren't trading partners. In reality if the Jets we're going to trade a high value asset like Scheifele, they're not going to bring his value down by attaching a low/negative value contract to him. They would be looking for as close to a 1 for 1 deal as they could possibly get, similar to the Laine/PLD deal.

Larkin would be the only player on Detroit that fits the bill, but the Wings aren't in a position to give up the 3 years age difference and without some adds to Larkin there isn't enough reason for Winnipeg to do it and then they're moving away from a 1 for 1 deal.

Svech has just as many points and 1 more goal than Wheeler.
