Keith was traded to Edmonton so he can be closer to his Family. No way he waives farther than where he was before

Yup. Precisely why I said "highly unlikely." Value wise probably fair but I doubt Keith wants to move to Cali.

I find it interesting that it’s “hopefully they see Barrie as a positive asset” and then get a 2nd in return.

Are you after Kubs skates here? This offer doesn't begin discussions on a trade.

Yeah I don’t think benson and a 2nd alone would get Kubalik without adding Kassian as a cap dump.

Value wise that’s not close. Lavoie, 1st and future 2nd might be enough for Lindholm. Now gotta pay to take Keith.

Boston is not looking for a top four offensive D.
Furthermore, he wouldn’t be in their top four.

He's having a really tough year so far.

    Kubalik: 21, 3-4-7 (-12) 4 ES points
    Kassian: 17, 4-5-9 (-1) 8 ES points

    Meh.

Where have you seen boston is looking for a top 4 offensive dman lmao. grz/mcavoy/reilly all very capable offensively. They either need a stay at home guy to play with mcavoy or they need a 2 way right hander thats more of a 4th dman that can play bottom pairing. they do not need offensive dmen at all lol.

I’d have that many points too if I played on a line with Connor McDavid

Kassian has only played 3 games with McD so far

These things can be looked up on hockeyviz.com

    Still significantly negative value tho

    It's very easy to argue

    1. Benson + 2nd is the cost to take Kassian

    2. Kubalik is a 1st line level goalscorer

He's had a rough patch like the rest of the team. Don't just throw him away for nothing when that happens. Put him on a line with McDavid like your comparison and I'm sure anyone would see a rise in production.

There is zero chance we consider this deal. Imagine if we tossed DeBrincat when he had his down year and couldn't bury the puck, we would look like idiots.

Kassian has spent less than 25% of his TOI with McDavid this year. Of course he performed better in those minutes, but his 2.14 P/60 5v5 with superstar Derek Ryan is better than Kubalik's production this year (0.41) and last (1.82).

Actually, superstar bump is what you're seeing in Kubalik's history: his first year his most common linemate was Toews (he scored an amazing 2.08 GOALS/60 in those minutes) and significant time with Kane (a mind-blowing 4.95 G/60 with Kane!), since then he has seen very little of these two. To break his first season down farther, he scored 3.38 P/60 with Toews and 1.54 without. He scored 6.77 P/60 with Kane and 1.77 P/60 without.

I'm not even arguing that the trade is fair, I'm simply saying that your argument is disingenuous: you're giving Kubalik credit for production that is CLEARLY influenced by his superstar linemates but denigrating Kassian for the same.

If what you were saying were true, then why wouldn't everyone who plays with them have those production levels? Because Kubs actually has ability and is known around the league as having a sneaky good quick release and a goal threat. Its also good to recognise he has performed on the international stage with "superstars" too.

Implying that Kassian a 30 year old who carries a hit of 3.2M for the next 2.5 seasons with his career production is in anyway a comparable asset to Kubalik a 26 year old RFA who in his first 2 years in the league alone, scored 47 goals. Almost as many as Kassian has had in his 6 years with the Oilers, also the same amount of time McDavid has been there.

Also good to note the type of teams we are discussing, Oilers have easily made playoffs in those years whilst Kubalik played under an AHL coach who couldn't put a system together and still put some reasonable numbers on the board.

If you were to do a poll amongst the whole community on ACGM I would feel confident that majority would agree that Kubalik holds far more value. There would also be large numbers that would suggest Kassian holds negative value.
