Ken Holland chose to forego selecting a consensus franchise goaltender in favor of getting Bourgault and an additional draft pick. Bourgault awarded him by having an outstanding Team Canada summer camp, strong rookie and main camps, and now a great season in the Q. He has played himself into solid contention for a spot on Team Canada and quieted the outrage in response to Holland's decision to trade back at the draft. He fits well into the Oiler developmental cycle, projecting to become an NHL player as Draisaitl and McDavid are playing out the tail end of their respective contracts. Edmonton will need to have guys like him in the fold in order to sustain a competitive franchise as their two superstars age and/or move on. The cost of acquiring Bourgault would be much higher than the Habs should pay. Montreal is better off focussing on more effective minor league scouting and targeting players that meet team needs.
