I forget all of the trades but there were some more good ones too.... I remember in the early years he did a really good job of clearing out cap space. He flipped Erik Cole for Ryder and a 4th and got out of that contract. Couldn't have been an easy decision with how good Cole was the year before but he got out of a bad contract there and Ryder turned out to be the better player. He got out of Bourque and some other contracts too I remember, Gorges and another defenseman I think.

Anyways as an extra it would be nice to know what MTL did with some of these picks, for example MTL didn't draft ****emo with the pick from the Suzuki trade they traded back and got Norlinder.

Danault trade is the biggest dub imo

im just joking around dont worry, hes not a bad gm, made some really good moves during his tenure, Just ran stale and it was time to move on

He's not the guy in charge of drafting and the fact that he's built a successful team with poor prospect development says even more about how good of a GM he was.

I would say Danault too. Petry was an expiring UFA with little intention to come back until Price convinced him.

Gonna say that this was a problem with the Habs as a whole for 15 years or so.

It's also good, but in exchange to Danault and Romanov-pick CHI received basically two cap dumps. Petry brought Oilers some picks at least.

when its not effective, change it, he gets blame along with his scouts for the terrible drafting,

carey was so good and carried this team so much that it prevented a rebuild years ago (hard to blame bergevin for that, when you have carey, you have to go for it.)

i'm over it pal, its the truth tho, the leafs saved bergevin and ducharmes jobs.

He was in charge of the staff and had final say on decisions. Their failures and his inability to correct those deficiencies, are absolutely part of his assessment as a GM.
This is the man who said you build through the draft and then failed to do exactly that. With all his wheeling and dealing over 10 years, he left the team no better off than when he arrived.

And then he was pressured into being competitive right away. You can't do both.
