which is why i said picks to balance it out
toffoli and dvorak are mostly for cap and some value but if MTL needs to give up a pick or prospect (or multiple) then that works

In theory its fine, obviously the habs would have to add picks but even then Jersey probably isn't biting

If bad comes to worse in NJ and they decide they've had enough of Hischer on the 3rd line, they could just put him on the wing, its not ideal but it beats trading a star center on a decent contract

Seems like Hischier is too valuable to be thrown away. Having too many good centers is niot a problem as long as you can afford it and NJ can afford it. Mercer also plays wing and could be moved there if need be.

Mercer could always shift to RW, and centre depth never hurt anyone.

That said, maybe MTL 2022 pick - top 3 protected which slides to unprotected 2023 evens it out.

Dvorak is a decent roster player replacement, Toffoli is good, and the first is likely pretty high. That's pretty much the equivalent of 3 first round assets which is pretty good.

Still don't think NJ does it, especially after just naming him captain

Actually it's pretty fair trade.....NJ gets two NHLers and Montreal would get the superior player. Total years of control about the same. But don't think the Jersey would trade their captain. And really you can't have too many good centres. Centres can play the wing at time, can have two centres on the PP. Injuries happen, good teams have 3 above average centres.

Oh no! Too much talent at C!?! The Devils better rush to make a trade for future talent while now while they have plenty of cap room and are still trying to improve!

At age 18, drafted 1st overall
At age 19, named 1st line center
At age 20, makes NHL all star team
At age 21, named youngest captain in NHL

So at age 22, we dump him?

The only missing piece in NJ is a star winger. Bratt may be turning into that, 17 points in last 14 games playing like a superstar, but he is on Mercers wing and we need someone to play like that on Hughes wing. NJ would need a young wing (around Hischiers age) who can bring that on a line with Hughes, and the team they are trading with likley will be a team who needs a 2 way center with offensive upside like Hischier. That is not something that Montreal really has to offer, so I do not see it working out with them. I do not see NJ ever trading Nico, nor do I want them to, but if it were to happen that is probably what it would take.

Why would they trade away a 22 year old Centre?

Cole Caufield would certainly be part of the trade. He and Hughes lit up juniors together.

I wouldn't trade Nico
Having 3 great centers would be amazing for the team
