Well he is indeed known as a playoffs guy, but a puck-mover, really? He has the worst transition stats of the team since he's been on the Habs if I recall correctly.

If price had 3 less years on his contract I’d take that deal. But with his age, contract length, inconsistency and injury problems I’m not keen on going for him even at half retention.

Yeah, but if you try to sell it like a used car salesman, it makes it true, especially if you use a lot of exclamation marks!

Oilers reject, Price is basically a cap dump with little gas left in the tank.

Let’s see Makar, Byram, Girard, Toews hell even EJ, why in the heck would the Avs need Chiarot? Why do MTL fans think that the Avs who have a significantly better GM are going to make stupid trades?

In my opinion, Chiarot would be a nice fit on Colorado’s blue line. They have a lot of great puck movers already, so a heavier shut-down guy who can still move his feet would be a nice compliment. He could take some heavier PK minutes away from their top D.

However, like @coga16 & @Xqb15a mentioned, Chiarot would come in as their #6 defenseman. Is he a valuable player? Sure. Is another team going to pay a 1st rounder for him? It wouldn’t surprise me at all. But for Colorado, they could make better use of their assets to address more pressing needs.

id put him at #5. given his play in the playoffs i'd put him ahead of the johnson's. still behind makar, toews, girard, and byram.

yup, exactly. Just not the fit in Colorado and adding on the blue line isnt a priority of theirs going into the TDL. Murray/Jack Johnson have been more than suitable 6th/7th dmem

Sometimes watching Murray and J Johnson frustrates me, but then I remember that Keaton Middleton and Greg Pateryn played games for the Avs last year, and Patrik Nemeth was their big deadline add on defense. Suddenly Murray and J Johnson don’t seem that bad.

. Well Savard got traded for a first last year even tho he’s not good so I don’t think I’m that far from reality

It was more the original "Having a big defender that can move the puck like Chiarot is an incredible move for the playoffs!", because anybody who has watched him knows that's a big 'ol crock of balogney.

Could he net a 1st? Sure, there's a chance. But I don't think the Savard comp is the ideal comp. GMs have proven time and time again that they'll overpay for a big, shutdown RD, mainly because there's so few of them that are typically available. When it comes to LD's, just looking at this years market, there's a strong crop that will likely be available at the deadline. Just off of the top of my head, Gio, Hampus Lindholm, and Nick Leddy will likely be there, and I'm sure there's a decent number of others as well.

Also important to consider that over the past few years, the number of 1sts moved at the deadline for pending UFA's has been:
2021-3
2020-0 (There were 4 traded, One for Goodrow, one for Coleman, one for Kase, one for Skjei, all of whom had term remaining)
2019-1 (There were 2 others traded. One for Duchene, one for Muzzin.
2018-3 (There were a bunch of others moved throughout the year, but they were all for players with term)
2017-2
2016-2 (One of these is the last pending UFA LD to get a 1st in a trade...sort of...it was a conditional 1st that ended up as a 2nd)
2015-1 (Here's the actual last pending UFA LD to net a 1st. Keith Yandle, who had 41 pts in 63 games at the time of the trade, had a ton of name value, and was playing 24ish minutes a night)

So, 7 years, 1 LD who has brought back a 1st. Pretty wild to look back on, and as a Ducks fan, worries me about a possible return on Lindholm (Though, I'm still hoping for an extension).

Caps aren't currently looking for defensemen, even with the loss of Schultz. When everyone is healthy Cholo and Irwin are scratched and even with Schultz gone Irwin is already the 7D, and Washington has Alexeyev, McIlrath, and perhaps Johansen ready to play. They even have Kempny in the AHL should the situation allow for him to come up.
