      Deal

However, if we're spending a 3rd round pick on Gudas, I'd want him to sign an extension.

Otherwise, spending picks next year on a rental like Gudas wouldn't make much sense for Ottawa.

If Ottawa wanted to re-sign Gudas to what Florida gave him in October of 2020, I'd be fine with it.

We don’t need an extension. We just need him as a good stop gap and veteran presence

Any reason why we can't sign a UFA that would serve the same purpose?

That's what we did with Ron Hainsey.

Because most of them that are available and willing to sign in Ottawa, suck

No they won't, lol. They're contending, Gudas is far more valuable to them than a bad pick

Yeah, still. Gudas has a cheap deal and it's not like the Panthers are going to just stop contending

Gudas was once a 3rd round pick and you left him exposed to Seattle for the expansion draft.

If a 3rd round pick is a "bad pick", then that means Gudas is a "bad player".

Why would teams ever trade for 3rd round picks anyway if they are "bad picks"?

Your logic hardly makes any sense.

It's your logic that doesn't make sense, lol. It's a bad pick, because the odds of a player drafted that low becoming good are not great. That isn't too hard to wrap your head around. With your logic, a 3rd round draft pick such as Brayden Point has no value...

      1. With your logic, a 3rd round pick is a "bad pick".

      Those aren't my words.

      Those are your's.

If that's the case, nobody should trade for them.

      Ever.

      2. I never implied that players that used to be 3rd round picks have no value.

Don't put words in my mouth and please keep up.

You said that Gudas is a 3rd round pick, hence a bad player. ("If a 3rd round pick is a "bad pick", then that means Gudas is a 'bad player'.")
That implies every player drafted in the 3rd round is a bad player.

And yeah, a 3rd round pick is a pretty bad pick. That's why you only trade bad players for them.

      1. Well, then if some players drafted in the 3rd round turn out to be good, then 3rd round picks aren't necessarily bad.

      Gotcha.

      2. In your team's history, you traded 3rds for Montour, Vatrano, Vanek, Purcell, etc.

      Yep, they're all bad.

No wonder you can't win a playoff round.

      Such a waste.

Yep, 3rd rounders are bad because only 12% of them ever make it to the NHL. There are hidden gems found in the rough, but 88% of 3rd rounders are basically worthless.

Also, it's your logic that states Vatrano and the others are bad, not mine.
