My question is .... Mathews is their franchise player and you could argue Marner is a close 2nd why arent you trading them for futures? Lets assume 2 years of Matthews could get you multiple 1st roubd picks + 1-2 top prospects

Lets revisit Jets trade....
matthews for

Perfetti
Heinola

1st (year after)

Marner for 25% retained Marner would be making 8m x3years

to be fair theyll have a lot of draft picks in 2 of the deepest drafts... they also could get Wright or Bedard... that alone would be enough imo... Cap space to sign elite talent.

Drake Batherson, 4.975mil, 7 goals, 16 points in 14 games.

Mitch Marner, 10.9mil, 6 goals, 17 points in 21 games.

I'm not gonna suggest Batherson is better than Marner, but what he IS is one of the best value contracts in the league. He's a 7-8mil forward making less than 5mil. He's absolutely untouchable.

Great. Lots of draft picks does not always translate to on-ice success.

Good example Edmonton 2007-2015.

Yeah, IF Matthews to Arizona is a sure thing, why would any team trade for him? Unless as a rental? In which case Dubois is not expendable for a Rental.

2 of the deepest drafts i would bet they will find some great talent in those drafts. Esp picking in the top 10 more likely top 5. Cap space is also valuable.... Other side of the coin lots of draft picks is never a bad thing. AZ has made some really smart decisions this last offseason

That would be a pretty bad assumption. No one is giving up four 1sts for two years of a highly overpaid player. No one.

OK. Even if we assume this brand new mgmt group hits the next two drafts out of the park, and does a better job developing then the franchise has in the past, there is still the fact they are one of the smallest markets in the league, and well known to have financial troubles forever.

So forgive me for not believing they'll all of the sudden spend to the cap, and match other teams in spending on scouting, development, etc.

you could argue he's a top 5 center.. top 10 player. if the Jets can win a cup in those 2 years i would consider the trade a massive success. I bet a team would pay that to have 2.5 season with matthews. That would be 3 chances at the cup with a guy that is marginally better than you 1c currently. Unless you think competing and getting bounced in the 1st 2 rounds is exciting lol

Penguins were on the edge of being moved to another city ... Crosby came in and helped turn them into winners now they sell out every single home game.... Its not rocket science if your team is playing well people will watch. Adding high end talent helps esp if they win the Wright / Bedard draft.. 2 elite centers smile

Actually, you can't really argue either of those things. The deal is different now than when we first commented. But for the first one a contending team can't afford to take in $11 mil in cap without salary going back. If they did, they would likely have to jettison at least 2 very good players and they'd find out as Toronto has, that it is hard to be competitive with such a bad contract on the books and no cap space for depth.

The deal as it stands now is even worse. 2 years of an overpaid Matthews doesn't get Dubois one for one. So, there is no chance Winnipeg adds a very, very good RH defenseman on top of that. It's totally unrealistic.

Sounds easy, guess I'll hold off on buying a Matthews jersey.

I just find it ironic that Matthews is destined to be a Coyote, when I follow the Leafs and have been hearing fans say Nash, Stamkos, Doughty, Pietrangelo, etc, etc. etc. are coming home for the last 20+ years, and it's happened exactly 1 time (Tavares).

So I'm really not losing much sleep about Arizona being a legit option for Matthews any time soon.

SOoOo... what you are saying is that you wouldn't trade PLD 1 for 1 for Matthews? lol have a good day. PLD isnt even a top 20 center idk if i would even put him top 30. Either way this feels pointless to continue have a great day

I never said he was destined to go to AZ... You said "Yeah, the way Arizona is going, how will Matthews be able to resist??" i simply replied to AZ is moving in the right direction and they have a great chance at drafting Wright or Bedard while adding a ton of young players with all the draft picks they have.

Yeah, it's much easier when you ignore contracts. Matthews is somehow a top 5 player, while Dubois with only one point less this year, isn't in a top 30 center. Hmm, it's easy to see you're being objective.

But yes it is pointless to continue a discussion with someone that wants to ignore realities like contracts, team control and the salary cap and pretend real life NHL teams operate based on NHL21. Have a good day.

Okay so lets focus on this year... Kuzy is now the 3rd best center in the NHL. Kadri is also a top 5 center right? Ignore contracts?

MAtthews vs PLD last 2 years

PLD
67gp 20g 19a 39p .58ppg roughly a 47p/82pg average WOW THATS AMAZING!!!

Matthews
72gp 51g 34a 85p 1.18 ppg OR 97p/82gp .... "Matthews is somehow a top 5 player, while Dubois with only one point less this year, isn't in a top 30 center. Hmm, it's easy to see you're being objective"

Matthews has played 5 more games and has 46 more points lmfao,

I HATE MATTHEWS but even my gf who literally picks her favorite player by "how hot they are" could understand why Matthews is a top 5 center and PDL isnt.
