I assume there will be some CGY fans on this thread. I'm a Bruins fan and obviously 2C is a potential need, so my question would be What exactly happened to Monahan? It felt like it wasnt that long ago since he was tearing it up - I saw the decrease in his numbers, but like I said, I'm a Bruins fans so I don't watch a ton of Western Canada games.

He was never on the table for an Eichel deal, you can assume that's due to his NTC, I don't hate the value, I don' tthink Miller is the target though.

Hip injury in game 6 of last season, off season hip surgery, Kris Versteeg did a hit on the radio in town a while back saying he was never the same after hip surgery in his career. Monahan could very well be going through the same, along with looking less agile and slow he has started losing a ton of 1 on 1 battles which he used to be really strong in. He would park in front of the net, get open by winning a battle and bury a good pass. That isn't happening anymore but he also isn't playing with nearly the same calibre of line mates anymore.

Ok that makes sense. I noticed he was pretty far down on the depth chart the other night - I didn't know the reason or rationale. But that makes sense. Thats a shame, he was a really fun player to watch and that top line he was on with Gaudreau was awesome. I hope he finds his game again - always seemed like a good character guy as well. Thanks!

I mean he's never been known as a line driver, always a great finisher. He was injured all of last year and that really took a toll on his confidence. Then he started out the season driving the 4th line.

He was moved up to the 2nd line and had some success there but now Sutter keeps swapping him and Backlund between 2nd and 3rd trying to get those 2 going.

IMO I think Calgary needs to bring up 1 of their high achieving forwards in Stockton (Ruzicka just got called up so that might be the key). They need someone with a bit more offensive dynamo than Pitlick playing on a line with Dube and Monahan. Someone who can help get him that confidence back.
