Oilers decline. They need a defenseman who can limit shots, goals, scoring chances and high danger chances. They aren't giving up high value for a guy who can't do any of that.

I wasn't looking at this year in isolation (although it isn't unimportant), I was looking at his entire career. Chiarot hasn't been average on his team for defensive metrics - he has CONSISTENTLY been a poor defender year after year after year.

MEH. At 50% retained he's worth a 4th.

Is Chiarot good, debatable, will a GM give good assets for him because GRIT and experience, yes

Kulikov had better defensive metrics last deadline than Chiarot ever has, the Oilers gave up a 4th for him. Lots of gritty replacement level defensemen were moved last deadline, mostly for late round picks.

Opinions on Chiarot vary wildly. I have read that they should expect to get a 3rd for him, but Elliot Friedman thinks they could absolutely get a first.

I don't have a horse in the race. All I know is that I am not in any front offices of any NHL teams, and I don't know what anyone is planning on doing. They can set their value, and see if they get any takers. Personally, I think they'll get a 2nd and a prospect (but that's just my opinion, so please don't hate).

Last thought: Never under estimate a GM's ability to overpay at the trade deadline and the opening of free-agency. It has happened before, and it will happen again.

It’s a fair deal imo but I think that teams will overpay the hell out of Chiarot so you could get a prospect like Lavoie (or Yamamoto?!) with that package
