Quoting: Pierre_from_Orleans
Those are mutually exclusive transactions.
You can see it as renting Sanfords services for Brown if the return on Sanford is a 4th. Then picking up Gambrell for a 7th. Two separate transactions. The reason the Sens picked up Gambrell wasn't because they shipped out Brown, it was because Pinto and White got injured.
Exactly, not sure why the Gambrell trade was linked to Brown's trade. He's here to fill a jersey because of injuries. Even after this covid crazyness, the team is still without Batherson, Pinto, White and Crookshank, 4 forwards that are/would be regulars on this team.
Logan Brown is also a reclamation project. He is naturally talented but not the most dynamic and has been injury-prone like crazy for years, which made him lose a TON of development time. He barely played hockey the last 2 years before this season. His value plummeted during that time. In hindsight, Brown should have been traded in 2019-20 before Covid but not only covid wasn't expected but Dorion can barely tie his own shoes so...
Sanford had good stats 2 season ago so maybe he had a bit of value, that is why Logan Brown was thrown as a (local kid) reclamation project to lower the price paid for Sanford to a 4th (instead of maybe a 3rd?)
