CDH has been great we can probably get more from him. Pavelski will cost a lot more.

Even as a rental, Pavelski is going to cost far more than a 3rd & a 4th. He was nearly a PPG player last year & on currently pace for over 50 points this year, in a terrible offensive system. Not saying he's going for something insane, but you can't gain a significant asset without giving up a significant asset in return. EITHER a late 1st & a decent prospect or a 2nd & a high upside prospect

while the prices for pav presented here are somewhat reasonable Devils shouldn't be the team paying it.
need to prove "we" can make the playoffs with this core without utilizing short term improvements, will hurt us in the long run to lose these types of assets at this time.
think there will be a couple of better options for pavelski to go to at TDL

Oh for sure. The only way the Devils should be making a trade like this is if they are actually competitive enough to potentially make a deep playoff run. I like the Devils this year. I think they are definitely on the right trajectory, but I don't see them as a deep playoff threat this season. They're getting close, but I don't know that 2021-2022 is the season that they should go all in. Give it another couple years & then take your shots when the championship window should be wide open.

Maybe Foote, Clarke, or Moynihan plus a 2nd.
(Foote and Clarke probably have similar value...Mukhamadullin is worth a ton more than either)

Devils won't be top bidder for Pavelski, but he would be a good vet to rent just to show our kids what getting into, and playing in, playoffs is all about.

I do not think Devils would consider this deal for De Haan. Make it a 5th or 6th.

Foote or Muk and a second would be my choice. We get the slightly better prospect and our front office seems more willing to target pure talent in the second round. I do like Clarke tho

I agree that the Devils likely won't be the top bidder for Pavelski. I think the only way they are serious about adding a pure rental like Pavelski is if they are firmly entrenched as a top-3 team in the Metro & look like a team that could make a deep playoff run. I love what the Devils are currently doing, but I don't think they are quite there yet & I don't see them buying a rental at this stage.

Correct me if I'm wrong (you do follow the Devils more than I do, so I'll defer to your judgement), but if I'm New Jersey and I plan on being a buyer at the deadline, I'm targeting guys at the deadline that still have a year or two left on their contract after this season. Doesn't make a ton of sense to trade young assets for a player that may only get you TO the playoffs when the Devils could trade for a player with term that could help get you THROUGH the playoffs a year or two from now.
