they should punt

i’ve come to the conclusion that a top 10 pick is a far better choice for this roster to extend the window than trying to go for it now. the team isn’t very good. nelson might be out for a bit. all of those things are bad. getting one of the top guys in this draft (wright/nemec/savoie/cooley/geekie/miroshnichenko/whoever else i’m too lazy to google it) is better for us than trying whatever here. the lines are insignificant, i just got rid of the ahl players on here. i also included my relative interest/disinterest in trading players and what i think we could get for them. anyway, if we can’t get wright, i like savoie and cooley best, or nemec if we wanted a D but imo we prob don’t want an RD as much as we would a forward since we have pulock and dobson but can’t score.

          Yes. Trim the players off dragging the team down (chara, Aho, Martin, and even Bailey and Nelson.

          Get the D to step up on the Blue Line and let’s see what happens.

          The isles do not need to tear it down - they need to get back to their identity and play pelech-Pulock together. They also need to end the 4th line. Give cizikas two new wingers. The issue with this team is bottom of the lineup players are making costly mistakes at the same time forwards in the top 6 are experiencing bad shooting luck.

          I would trade Varlamov , Bailey, and Mayfield let Clutterbuck walk and go with this lineup next season.

          they should def not move him but if they’re REALLY blowing it up, he’s the most valuable guy on the roster lol!

          tear it down and punt this season are two different things tho. it looks like because of these external issues and also poor play that they are more likely than not to miss the playoffs. if they’re not going to make the playoffs, i’d much rather they finish bottom 8 as opposed to barely missing and get 16th overall. having a top prospect would do wonders for both the future and our contention window.

          Yeah I’m saying I disagree about tearing it down. Punting the season would be doing the same thing they’re doing now - giving chara top 4 minutes + keeping the 4th line together.

          I think the most important thing right now is to put the young guys like Dobson, Salo , and Wahlstrom in a position to succeed and we’ll see where they end up.

          agree with that for sure. this can be a big development year as long as they let the young guys have time and make mistakes. if we come out of this season with salo and dobson looking like top 4 defensemen and with wahlstrom looking like a top six forward and maybe even with a guy like bellows carving out a spot as an NHL player, that would be a massive success.

          Trotz needs to do what he did in 18-19 with pelech/Pulock + Toews/Mayfield. He had no other choice but to let them develop chemistry. That’s the approach Trotz should have with Salo-Dobson, Barzal + Wahlstrom. Wahlstrom has been their best winger analytically and there’s not even a close second
