Because Bergevin really likes his immobile defensemen that play like he did and seem to have a thing against puck-moving defensemen. I wonder if there are any other examples.

Edit: Bob Gainey also had a thing for defensive, low-scoring forwards


That would make a lot of sense actually, you model your team to make it be what you want and you'd think that if they like the way they played, they'd want players similar to them

Boston fans don't even know there was a draft in 2015, they got Debrusk, Zboril, Senyshyn, Carlo, JFK ( obviously not the politician ), Lauzon, Vladar and 3 randoms. Carlo and Debrusk are the only promising players still on the Bruins and even then, Debrusk isn't the most promising

Man, if they’d hit on even one of the 3 picks that woulda been a really good draft. If they’d actually managed to get Chabot (1LD), Barzal (1C), Connor (1LW), Carlo (2RD), Lauzon (3LD), and Vladar (2G) that would be one of the single best drafts in NHL history.

Doug Wilson’s elite puck moving/ OFD back end fetish;

He’s a HOF former D man, followed by key names on his teams

Ozolinsh, Boyle, Burns, Karlsson

who are now being followed by

Merkley, Kniazev in the pipes with Ferraro on the team now (tho Mario is much more two way, guy leads the league in blocks I think for starters)

We’ve basically always played dump and chase and focused on using D man as “quarterbacks”

The fact his QA is 4.85 mill is a big turn off for many teams to want to grab him. Especially when we look at his performances these past 2 years.

White... just overpaid (if contract was 2.5mill = fair)

Murray... Yeah I would have just let Pittsburgh be stuck with him or bought low and signed him to a Talbot deal

Del Zotto buyout actually aint bad.

500k year 1, 750k year 2

Whites is 8 years 875k

Murray and Zaitsev's buyouts are annoying cap wise

Honestly if White gets bought out watch him go to Tampa and be their 3c.

The sad part is, we’re not even a floor team without this bad money. Del Zotto isn’t worth buying out honestly, just bury him in the AHL or something. White is still at least a decent middle six centre when healthy, overpaid a little but not a big deal, and likely could be moved for value, or at least wait for a couple years, have him fill a role, and maybe buy out the last year. Murray and Zaitsev suck and I would like them to be bought out, but it doesn’t make much sense unless we get some UFAs (like Klingberg or Giroux or something) to get us to the floor, or in Murray’s case, we’d have to bring in another goalie in free agency to tandem with Gustavsson.
