first thing jim benning does in montreal is trade cole caufield for vlasic and labanc, thinking the latter is french canadian.

first thing marc bergevin does in vancouver is bring back jake virtanen

lol. I love this trade. I mean it's one thing to be expected to be awful (Arizona, Seattle). It's another to be these two teams right now. Yikes.

Wait so lemme get this straight... Without their #1D, #3D, #1C, #3C, #1G from last year, this team wasn't expected to be bad? HuH?

Bergevin and ducharme had their jobs saved by the leafs last year, carey price has kept this team in the in between stage for years thinking they were better than they were so it prevented a rebuild that should have been done years ago, (thats not completely bergevins fault cux when you havea carey price you have to try) on top of it all they cant draft to save their lives,

weber is nowhere close to what he used to be but habs fans are too stubborn to admit it

weber career is done, what's your point?! Literally every Habs fan hated the Weber for PK Subban trade. You're creating a false narrative. Its the hockey media that worships Shea 'aura' 'intangibles'

should have said was, but no, habs fans think it as well, when they still refer to him as their #1d it is evident

Who's arguing that he is? However, if you are trying to imply that he wasn't the #1 D last year, I guess you weren't watching

This season is a godsend. MTL/Molson/Bergevin wld have never rebuilt on their on volition. The fact that Weber is done and Price is gone among other things has finally FORCED them into a corner to rebuild. let's just hope they both aren't around to do it.

Many posters on here, sports media, and myself as a Habs hater did not expect the Habs to be this bad. After making it to the cup last year I thought they would see some elevated play from several players. #1 D in Habs fans minds has been Petry. Having acquired Savard the #3 D was thought looked after. Suzuki appears to be fine as the new 1C. Dvorak was brought in as a 2nd C. And goaltending didn’t shake out as planned.
So yes. I would say that most people expected more from the Habs than competing for Shane Wright this year.

Expected more than this? Very probable. But expected them to be just as good as last season even after everything they've been thru in the last 6 months? Not likely.
