Pulock is out. Subban can’t replacement in Islanders style of play, but it’s the best we got. And we know Lou is on speed-dial at the deadline. 4th goes to third team to retain 25% if needed.

These would be my suggestions
Make the Islanders pick protected. They're bottom 10 in the league right now so they probably want to keep their pick or have it protected
Switch Boqvist to Kuokkanen. Gives the Wild a more NHL-ready player. But if they want Bo that's fine too. I like the deal for the Devils though
Send Holtz down to Utica (to give him ice time)

Agree on all. Not sure Lou cares so much about 1st rounders, but some protection makes sense (if Lou made sense).

And Holtz to Utica. Wouldn’t sit him in press box. I just left him there because I wanted to send Geertsen down.

(Also, Wood and Hughes are in lineup, so this would be end of year team).

Cash-wise, it’s like $100k for Islanders. All his bonuses are already paid.

I don't know which Wild fan suggested that, but that's not going to cut it for Fiala.

Yeah not really the package I would expect in return for Fiala. Not sure what other pieces would need to be included from both sides but what about a trade centered around Fiala for Holtz. I know NJ fans will hate it, because no one ever wants to move a prospect, but just saying that's something I'd be very interested in.

In what world is Minnesota not only selling at the deadline but also selling one of their biggest offensive threats for easily less than they could get in theory?

Also, that's way too much for PK

Lou wouldnt trade a 7th rd pick for Subban, let alone a 1st, I’m not sure what Subban would do to help the isles.

Minnesota isn't selling @ deadline. If they are out @ deadline, it wouldn't be for this proposal. He's worth more than this

It’s just not that realistic. Prospects like Holtz rarely get moved unless it’s some Berard-like situation.

It probably wouldn’t be a deadline deal…would more likely be be end of season thing.

(Odds that Devils buying at deadline are probably low too).

Call it a 2022 entry draft trade. Works then?

I won't argue with you on that point, because you are right. I just don't know what the original Wild fan was thinking when he proposed the trade you have here in the first place. Wild likely do trade Fiala but not until next off-season. Because of cap constraints it will likely be for picks or prospects. I and most other Wild fans aren't that impressed with this package, since other GMs know Guerin has to move out money he might not get the return we would all like to see.

Don’t underestimate Lou’s penchant for sending favorable trades to New Jersey!

Subban shouldn’t have much of a problem getting a 2nd at deadline. A 1st may be hard, but you never know. Even David Savard got a 1st.

Read the thread on the trade here https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/529516?post_id=2797190.

I even increased the ask from NJ. Boqvist is a gamble as cheap change-of-scenery candidate. Has been a tweener center prospect (done well in AHL, yet to put it together in NHL). And with Hughes, Hischier, Mercer, McLeod up the middle, he may not get much of a chance in NJ.

Okhotiuk is physical two-way LD and has really grown as more well-rounded prospect this year in AHL with a pretty high floor. Devils have Graves, Smith and Siegenthaler in NHL and Hughes, Bahl, Mukhamadulkin arriving over next few years…so Okhotiuk also may be blocked.

Yeah I'm going to question his knowledge of the Wild pipeline. Wild are stocked at left D. Lambos isn't known for physical play but he is 6-1 so not small.
Then there is O'Rourke he is 6 foot or better and very physical.
Then Wild have Hunt who is well rounded not overly physical but can take it there if need be. So LD would be of very little interest in reality. Boqvist is intriguing but to much of a gamble to be the main piece.

Subban never played for Lou and he’s a terrible hockey player at this point in his career. Lou has made two trades with NJ, both trades were a big reason why the isles have made the ECF two years in a row. Subban would make the isles worse which is why it isn’t going to happen. Also Isles do not need a RHD, if they are going to make a trade for a defenseman it will be a LHD to replace Chara

This is just a thing that people like to say because for whatever reason some love to hate him. Hockey people don’t feel that way. He may not be Norris-contender or $9 million-a-year player, but is still a solid d-man.

He had said LD and C were the needs. Kuokkanen could also be an option (really anyone other than obvious core / future core guys). I think one of my offers over summer was Kuokkanen, a protected 1st plus another small piece. Would stick with that too if chances are high we could re-sign Fiala.

I was under the impression that this was a deadline ACGM scenario but even then I still think Minnesota would get more if they do end up trading Fiala so I gotta say no, I don't think it works then.

Why? We just saw Sam Rienhart, a similarly producing player who had Jack Eichel to play with (Fiala hasn't really had anything) demand a trade get more in return.

Kuokkanen, and a protected 1st, plus another small piece is more intriguing. I don't know enough about Kuokkanens development to say yes to a deal like that but from what I know of him prior to being drafted I'd say that offer is in the ballpark.

Do with this whatever you will, but Kuokkanen has been a third/fourth line winger all year

I feel like if we are going to trade Fiala, something premium needs to be coming back to us. At least a 1st or a great prospect. This package is just.... meh
