Quoting: Dekes
but islanders didn't do much to replace eberle or leddy. leddy was solid pp wise and offensively and from the 4ish islanders games i have watched one of the main struggles i see is little to no offence coming from the defence, pulock can't do it all. trotz also splitting up Pelech and pulock had to be one of the worst ideas ever. put them back together get mayfield a more offensive minded dpartner that can be your pp1 quarterback and rotate greene, chara with dobson. both too old to play full time. I know aho was solid offensively in the SHL and AHL but the nhl is quite a step from those leagues they need a true top 4 scoring dman, making aho try to take leddy's role would be too much pressure for a rook
Wahlstrom has been just as good as Eberle this season, minute for minute he’s been the isles best forward and Trotz won’t give him a top 6 role. Palmieri despite the lack of scoring has been solid at driving offense and setting up goals. The TOI distribution is the reason for the teams struggles, the worst players on the team are getting the most ice time.
Leddy was pretty good on the PP, he was just an offensive blackhole at even strength. It was the right move to trade him and the fact that he’s been one of the worst defenseman in the league this season proves that. The issue is he was replaced with Chara who is worse lol and you’re right, splitting up P+P is insane and it’s only to accommodate chara.
Dobson has been good offensively at even strength , both driving play and increasing the rate isles score goals. Aho is not great defensively, but he can definitely drive offense in the NHL, but tbh I’d rather Salo play which looks like it’ll happen this weekend. The isles wouldn’t have been in the position they are right now if they started the season with these D pairs:
Pelech-Pulock
Salo-Mayfield
Greene-dobson
