This roster is screwed. Can anyone explain how they plan to sign LaF or Chytil or Miller, especially considering Kakko will probably get more than that?
Only thing they can really do is not sign Strome and trade Kreider or Trouba.
I'm not going directly off of this specific armchair GM team here, but from my other teams that have done pretty much the same as this one:
"In 23-24, NYR have 13 players signed with 15.2mil in space, with main pieces Lafreniere (~4mil), Miller (~2.5mil), and Chytil OR Blais (~3mil) to sign. This leaves 5.7mil for the remaining 5-7 contracts, which is doable. Hopefully the cap then goes up considerably. If they choose to keep Blais over Chytil, then Goodrow takes over as the 3C."
I don't believe that Kakko is going to get any more than 2.5mil at the absolute maximum. He should get what Chytil got, if not a little less since he isn't center. He hasn't shown enough consistency so far to earn a big money long term deal. I'm sure he'll have hot stretches this year like he is currently on (granted, two games), but I'm sure it'll be followed by several cold stretches as well
At the end of the day, letting Strome walk and promoting Chytil to the 2C and Goodrow as the 3C is another optimal strategy that gives NYR a little more breathing room. In this scenario though Chytil then gets 4mil per year instead of 3mil given the increased role.
