Description
I'd be excited if this is our lineup next year. Is my Fiala contract in the right range or will he be 8M?

I think KK and Zuccarello will find last year's magic again soon. Also, I'm tired of Dumba stepping up/getting flashy turning into a gpg against this year.

I doubt Sturm signs that contract and Fiala you could go cheaper AAV for more term.

I think we should probably reevaluate a potential Fiala deal. He’ll be a 26 yo UFA and he will be able to walk there for what will likely be a mid 6 mil arb award. If he’s signing next year, the term is 6 years and probably close to 7.5 mil unless he has a down year, at which point it’s a lock he walks to UFA.

If he has a down year would you do a 1 year arbitration again for 5-6M or would you try to trade him?

Trade him without question, regardless of how he performs. The chance to sign him long term was last summer, that would have been mid 6 at minimum. Going to arb was when that decision to trade him was made.

With his current play and points his $5m contract is looking correct. He's been on nice 82 game paces the last couple of years, but he really needs to have a 60p+ season to justify anything more than $6m/yr.

I would have had no problem signing him over 6 mil this summer because I think he’s a 60 pt guy. Not playing out right now but there’s a lot of season left.

Reports saying Sam girard could be available from Colorado, and they want a top 6w back. How would that look to move fiala for him and then we could move on from dumba and goligoski next offseason. Although losing fiala would be far less than ideal since he’s got so much potential. Handles cap space concerns from both fiala and dumba getting raises and makes our blue line younger.

Not sure how available girard is, just saw it somewhere.

Dumba's nice but no way Seattle gives up a top 3 or whatever to obtain. 100 times better off spend 6m on a UFA and keep that very hight picks.

While you shop Greenway and Dumba, Devils still holding on line 2 for Fiala.

Fair enough. I mainly went to Seattle because I know they're having defensive issues and they have the cap space.

I'm not seeing other options. smile he's played with Spurgeon twice and looked decent. I toyed with keeping Brodin with Addison and playing Kulikov or Cole with Spurgeon.

I'd consider it. Especially if Fiala is playing himself out of a future with us

I am not sure...as far as comps go, this is what I came up with in the summer: Trade Comps for Fiala

Probably a lot of to love/hate for both sides in there.

What is MIN looking for?

I feel like Kuli with Spurgeon and Brodin with Addison gets you the most out of the defensemen you have after trading Dumba. Honestly Kulikov as a fourth is far from the end of the world, especially if Spurgeon can do most of the puck moving. I could be wrong. I’m a big fan of balanced pairs. Just send us Fiala and you can keep Dumba 😉

We have no cap space, so we have to trade for futures. He's got one year of RFA, but no contract next year, so that's hard to determine value of just the rights to him.

Personally, I'd want two midrange pics and maybe a conditional the following year. Or something like 2nd'/3rd Rd and a C prospect or LD prospect. I don't think we'll be able to get a haul like we did for Zucker (1st, player, and prospect). So be wary of anyone proposing that.

I like that plan of Kuli with Spurg and Brodin with Addy.

And yes, I think most of us would agree we'd rather have Fiala over Dumba. Dumbas step ups have been terrible this year.

Got a few options for you...

LD Nikita Okhotiuk - physical, two-way LD, currently is top d-man on Devils AHL team, who are currently 10-0 with 1.8 GA/g
LD Michael Vukojevic - a bit of a size/speed/skills raw package that is a project d-man (also childhood friend of Jack Hughes, so maybe we shouldn't).
C Jesper Boqvist - an offensive C that has been a tweener (lights up AHL, hasn't found his groove in NHL).
C Fabian Zetterlund - two-way C making his NHL debut tomorrow. Added 20 lbs in off-season and has been point-per-game so far this year in AHL
C Nate Schnarr - Big body bottom-6er who is blocked by McLeod for 4th line C. Also point-per-game this year. (But is kinda slow).
C/RW - Graeme Clarke - Brandt's bro. Mostly offense, wicked shot, great skating, has dealt with injury woes in recent years (and also, childhood friend of Jack Hughes).

Any of those guys work?
