Dumoulin is a top pairing D-man, plays 21 plus minutes a night, with play-off experience and 2 time SC winner.

And he just turned 30 on a reasonable contract. Dude is 6’4, 210, a leader, great skater, hits, block shots, plays PK, barely makes mistakes, doenst miss games, great analytics, moves the puck well, everything u want from a D-man.

Worse D-men on expiring contracts get a late 1st and a prospect. Dumoulin has another year on his contract too.

I shouldn’t even have to explain Rust. Rust = Zach Hyman(if you know who that is). You know; Edmonton just paid him a 5.5M contract for 7 years. Rust making 3.5M.

Hyman - 360 games, 94 goals, 104 assists, 198 points,
490 hits, 194 blocked shots

Rust - 371 games, 101 goals, 115 assists, 216 points,
534 hits, 221 blocked shots

**both 29 years old (1 month apart).

I wouldn’t pay in trade for the 8th overall pick value Broberg has either. Do Edmonton fans think he’s a bust or gonna be a bust like everyone else? Or least not close to what an 8th overall pick should be.

If he was a Pens prospect, I would be wanting the organization to trade him too.

Of course, not like Im rooting against the kid. Wish him well. Just don’t see it, or from everything I’ve read, most don’t either.

I don't think he's a bust he just hasn't been given a chance. And we also have Samorukov who may be better than Broberg

Ya, I wish him the best. Most all I’ve read arnt very high on him though. But they could all be wrong. All of them are wrong all the time. And I’m definitely wrong often.

You can “win the draft” every year too. It’s all subjective.

Organization fans that love their draft picks and prospects are usually fans of a losing organization.

Does it suck if your team trades away a guy and he kills it somewhere else. Or they give up on a top prospect and trade him after a bad season or two and that guy ends up being a late bloomer and living up to the potential. Ya, of course.

It even sucks to trade your draft pick and the other team drafts a stud in that position(like your team was gonna draft the same player).

But I’m in the camp I would much rather see the team I root for go for it and trade away those picks and prospects than “win the draft” every year or have the top rated minor league system. That sh*t is all subjective anyways.

IMO you lost both trades. The prospects going out will help push this team into a perennial contender*, the players you got back represent a short term boost (except MAF and Carter, who appear to be done).

*Broberg is ahead of Klefbom at the same age, Savoie is on pace to match Caufield's scoring last year in a tougher conference. These are legit, high-end prospects.

1. Broberg is tracking ahead of Klefbom at the same age.
2. Savoie matched Cole Caufield's freshman stats last season and he's matching Caufield's sophomore stats this season - in a better conference.

These guys are going to be key to moving this team from Contender to Dynasty in the coming years, I don't think it's a good idea to trade them for a rental and 1.2 years of Dumoulin.

Fair enough man. Like I’d said, it’s not like I’m rooting against Broberg. Just most everything I’ve ready said he hasn’t developed and produced like he should be or was excepted to. Especially for an 8th overall pick

But yes and he’s still 20 years old. Just from what I’ve read, I wouldn’t ecstatic if he was a prospect the Pens got back in any trade; involving any player.

Hope he has a long, HOF, SC winning career though.

I don't know what the expectations were, or why they would be super high, as I believe he has met expectations so far. People on this site expect these kids to just jump into the NHL and impact the game, but reality doesn't work like that. I'd say any disappointment in Broberg is due to unrealistic expectations.

Not this site. Any article I’ve seen. And not that Ive read every Edmonton prospect articles that get put out or are out. But the ones I’ve have seen(probably from Edmonton beat writers, Edmonton analyst too) all have had the same opinions/takes.

But again, I understand he’s just 20. And those top Prospects articles arnt always right either. But just like I said, from what I’ve read, he isn’t a prospect I’d be ecstatic about the Pens pursuing or getting back in a trade.

An 8th overall pick has expectations . And not set by me or anyone on this site either.

That's 8 months old and subsequent reports confirmed that he was playing injured at the time. You wouldn't be ecstatic because you aren't up to date.

I think I definitely understand your point. I think you understand mine. If not I don’t care anymore really. I’m not gonna keep repeating myself or keep reading your posts explaining your take just using different words. Wish the kid best. Hope he becomes a HOF, SC winning D-man.
