I can't wait to see all the proposed deadline trades when the Pens are back in the playoff race next week.

Hope you prove me wrong, but I don't see this team as a cup contender. Unless we're top in the metro and really clicking by the deadline we should trade our players before they walk for nothing this offseason.

Rangers have no interest in Letang

We have been injury prone all year. Our guys just came back from injury/COVID and will need a bit of time to get going again. Geno has yet to play.. I do think it will be a challenge because we are in the strongest division, but we still have time.. I think it is way too early to sell off. I think this team is definitely good enough to make the playoffs. If we get closer to the deadline and the situation has not changed, then we can start to look at stuff like this.

We'll see. You should go all in now because they'll be in cap hell soon. Would be a sure cup contender and have the best blue line in the NHL if you got him.

This has been a broken team playing with basically half of a roster for most of the season and right now the Pens are probably the best team with the worst record. Getting so many bodies back at once throws things off kilter, players need to get their legs and new lines need to gel. I'm expecting maybe one more rough game before things are back on track.

Don't disagree with you, but this thread is more if this continues, which I think it could. Maybe we make the playoffs, but I don't see us as a cup contender, not just because of this season, but because the team actually got worse in the offseason from last year. If we aren't sure that we can contend we should trade these guys before they walk in free agency for nothing. Need to get value back or else the rebuild will be awful and last a long time. See with Chicago and LA, thought they could still contend with an ageing core, but should've traded them away, while they had value.

I don't think we're the best team with a bad record. Our D is awful and many forwards are underperforming. We also got worse this offseason even after an embarassing first round exit. I'm sure we won't suck for this long, but I doubt we contend for a cup and if theres any doubt about us being contenders we should trade these players and get value back.

If we are out of it by the deadline, then I do think we make trades. However, I think a lot of these trades are off and do not make much sense. NYR have no need for Letang and that TBL trade is terrible for PIT. Regardless, the idea of moving some big boys out if these performances continue is there.

Yeah, some of these trades can definitely be adjusted. I think the idea is right though, that if we're not contending then we have a lot of players we can move for first round picks and prospects.

Maybe I phrased it wrong. Out the teams with the worst record, we are by far the best one. The last two games? Yeah, the D has been bad, but the Pens are actually a very good defensive unit. The scoring we've gotten from our depth is HUGE and possibly better than we had last year, so when the big guys are all back in gear this team could POTENTIALLY be very scary.

I just don't see it. The fact that we literally got worse this offseason after 3 straight first round collapses shows me that the management dosen't see this team as a contender, or else they would've gone all in and made moves. The power play is straight up abysmal, Kapanen and other top players have been bad, defense is absolutely awful with Matheson playing bad and Marino not showing much improvement, and goaltending I don't trust. We usually play well with injuries to top stars, but we've been bad this year both with and without them. If we keep thinking we're a contender then getting bounced early in the playoffs the rebuild is going to be much longer and painful. Better to commit and get it over with.

LOL...Letang would be 4th on the Rangers RHD depth chart.
