Description

Obviously this would rely on Both Chicago being willing to trade Toews, as well as Toews being willing to waive to Calgary. However I think he would be more than open to waiving to Western Canada.

Toews under Sutter would be incredible though, match made in heaven. PK which is already great would be even better, top 9 would be really consistent and 4th line would be annoying as hell to play against. Toews is a face off God and would make our 1st PP deadly. He was incredible vs the Oilers in the Bubble all while feeling the long haul effects of Covid (if you don't know what I'm talking about go read his story). He is also a born team leader with an excellent compete level and Stanley cup pedigree to back it up.

While I do like Monahan I just feel like after missing out on Eichel this may be the next best option for making a legitimate cup run and wanting to stay competitive in a division with both McDavid and Eichel (and Draisaitl too)

I'm not too certain on the trade value but I don't see him returning any of Zary/Pelletier/Coronato/Wolf without something else good added on or also including the 1st

I do agree that toews mixed with coaching staff is a great match however giving up monahan to add an aging toews I’m just not sure that’s big enough upgrade to make a difference just make the team a little more likely to implode sooner. I get the mindset and agree with it but don’t see having the results looking for.

So you submitted this team with a -1.5million dollar cap hit, and you see that Gaudreau, Chucky, Mangiapagne, and Kylington need contracts in the offseason... even if you buyout Lucic, how do you suppose that will work with this trade?

The cap isn't a major issue as contracts prorate as the season progresses and teams also accrue unspent cap space.

Next would be just like how they would have fit Eichel but with 1M more cap. They also wouldn't buy put Lucic as it has almost zero cap savings, however he does become quite a it more tradable after his bonus is paid.

There is just so much that goes into this. For Toews to waive to go to ANY team he's going to want them truly going for the cup. The Hawks want that too by the way. If they're trading Toews...that means they're tanking. So from BOTH points of view (Toews and the Hawks) Keep Monahan and send dumps. Yes, I get CGY is required to say yes to a trade, but they're just in the mix of compition for Toews services...IF the hawks are trading him.

So A.) Take Monahan out of the trade. Toews will want him still as a Flame. B.) The Hawks don't want Monahan, he doesn't help the tank. C.) Coronato is a requirement. If not then we can probably go our separate ways. C.) the Hawks will be looking to retain $5.25M in cap because they max out their trade capital. D.) ONE of the trade targets will send a top tier prospect and which ever team does...that's who the Hawks should trade with.

Good thought on the trade. For any Toews trade to work, similar cap has to be returned to the Hawks. Just wondering how much Toews has left but that is subjective. It's the cap next year that is iffy. Tkachuk gets a raise, Mango a bit one, plus other RFAs, so looks like Gaudreau would be gone.

Calgary has a lot of cap coming off the books next summer so they should be fine. Between Mangiapane, Gaudreau, and Tkachuk you are probably looking at net raises of around 5M - 5.5M. Thats pretty mich Zadorov + Gudbranson, then the cap goes up a bit to cover for the 2 replacement players.

The only wrench in that plan now is Kylington. How much is he earning himself. I'm a bit worried that we may be looking at anoth Gostisbehere like deal with him
