A couple of months ago I proposed this trade to Buffalo and was met with laughs and angry responses from hockey fans in general and Leafs haters, saying the deal was "robbing" Buffalo. I think the deal was more than fair, but apparently not. So let's look at the current deal:
Eichel to Vegas for: Alex Tuch. A good top 6 forward, really nothing special, no knock on him. Preyton Krebs, a B level prospect, a 1st round selection (lottery protected 2022). I see Vegas making the playoffs this year, so I don't think it will transfer, they're off to a slow start like the Leafs were. And if they are a lottery team this year, a healthy Eichel all year next year as well as other guys on the injured reserve should make them playoff bound next season, maybe even contenders. So Buffalo gets a mid 20's 2022 draft pick, and a 2023 conditional second rounder. In my trade, Buffalo lands on the better two way forwards in hockey, a top 10 scorer who hasn't even reached his prime, a 1st round pick which will probably look like Vegas', Robertson a good B prospect, and a second rounder. There is no debate that mine is better, let the backlash I received said otherwise. I'm convinced that people on this site think they know true value in transactions and player value, but really are just posting based on emotional decisions and personal biases. I can't really complain I guess, it is a hockey forum. In future posts I'll take criticism with a box of unrefined salt.
Krebs isnt a b level prospect and Marner is vastly over paid
Krebs is likely a low end 1C at his very very peak. Likely a good 2C. Whether you want to call that an A prospect or a B prospect. He still shouldn’t be the main piece in an Eichel trade. Can’t say tuch is the main piece either. I just think Buffalo overplayed their hand with Eichel. Ended up biting them in the butt.

Krebs B+ maximum, and keep in mind he's a prospect, not an NHL star. Salary cap isn't an issue for Buffalo, they were paying Eichel alot anyways. Salary would have to come back anyways.
Well I don't think the trade helps the "win now" Leafs. Eichel is on LTIR to March, and gee the Leafs makes the playoffs with Eichel or (or Marner) this season?
One thing you didn't mention in analysis is that Sabres get over 5.2m in cap difference Tuch instead of Eichel. Sabres may want to use that difference at some time to upgrade their team.
So your saying the deal that Vegas gave them is better than mine from Toronto?
Krebs is a better prospect than Robertson. Marner is better than Tuch. But I don’t think it’s by a huge margin. Plus Tuch is on a great contract while Marner is overpaid by like 2-3 million dollars.
