I guess the real issue is what would the Avs want and what are they sending? Girard is 23, has 6 years left on a deal that pays $5M per; he can QB a PP, can PK, plays a ton of minutes and has good underlying metrics. IMO, the Avs would not be all too interested in futures; they want guys who bring something right now. A young/youngish wing that can score with some sort of cost control (RFA and/or term at a reasonable cap hit) would be at the top of the list, even better if he has some size. That alone probably isn't enough to get it done unless it's someone that can put pucks in the net consistently and is also defensively responsible so if they can also get a reliable depth D, that would be ideal. I don't think this deal accomplishes that.
