is this a joke? add like two 1st a top prospect and then we can start talking... that is some huge malign disrespect as always

that's a lot to pay for rentals. 8 years of high end defenseman for a few months of geno and rust. it's tempting due to the amount of skill they bring but if the avs don't win this season it will go down as one of the worst trades they've ever done. personally i'd rather just get a good top 6 winger with term.

I'm not a Penguins fan or a Colorado fan. But Malkin is 35, has only this year left on his contract, and hasn't played at all yet. 2013 Malkin gets what OP posted plus what you said, but not 2021 Malkin. It's also not like Bryan Rust is lighting the world on fire in his 4 games (but he's been pretty good).

This is a very wrong take. You're so way off it's not even funny.

Take off the black and yellow glasses for just a moment. When was the last time a team traded away a top-4 defenseman, two firsts, and a top prospect for a rental 35 year old? That's the comment I was referring to. What team would ever even consider doing that? Malkin isn't what he once was, and that's okay because it's just age. He was a superstar, but a trade of where he is at now won't be based on what he once was.

Your evaluation ability is so embarrassingly bad that engaging you to begin with was a huge mistake on my part. When someone is as lost as you are, trying to have any semblance of a real conversation is an act of futility.

Yikes, someone's getting defensive over their aging players. You are correct on one point though: Engaging was a mistake.

Have a nice day, and I hope you can actively contribute to a conversation without insulting people instead of having a discussion and providing useful reasoning. Sorry someone ate your Cheerios or something this morning.

Playing through that injury last season cost him to the point he had to have surgery and HE STILL managed just under a point-per-game; that's bonkers! Prior to that season he still produced at an elite level, 1.35 points per game for 74 points in 55 games. He is still an elite generational player and at 35 has barely shown signs of slowing down.

Even as a rental the conversation would start at a 1st, 2nd and the best prospect available. TO START the conversation. You want to add in nearly half retention? Now to start the conversation you're talking about TWO 1sts, 2nd and the best prospect available.

The Pens aren't moving Geno unless they're going into a rebuild, so taking on someone like Gerard would make no sense not to mention on the left side the Pens already have Dumoulin, Pettersson, Matheson, Riikola and POJ. There's no room. The Pens are currently trying subtract, not add.

See, now that's civil discourse and a solid addition to a conversation. Thank you. Remember, this wasn't my ACGM, nor my trade.

I see where you're coming from, as I'd get just as defensive about Kopitar were there to be a trade. However, I can't agree. Just to look at a comparable trade, Eichel brought in a 1st, a 2nd, a top prospect and a roster player. You're asking for nearly the same thing before retention. Except Malkin is still 11 years older, Eichel has 4 years more after this year of team control, and both are still a question mark with injury.

I just personally don't see Malkin getting that return given my points. I'm not saying he's only gonna get like... a 7th round pick or something. He'd still bring a decent haul. I just don't think it's going to be nearly as large as you expect.

Also, I do agree that the Pens likely aren't going to be be rebuilding until Sid is gone. So that likely means no Geno trade. That's how I'd manage that team. Go for it as long as possible with the (arguable) best player in franchise history still playing at a high level.

see!? would you have traded ovi in 2013? that is exactly why I say people disrespect him !!! geno has been the second best player in the league for 10 years!! in 2013 he would have been untradable!! now I get the injuries now etc BUT if any team gets geno healthy at 50% salary they are winning the cup. plus rust retained and being almost a 0.75 point per game player in the last two years and being great two way player is another steal.

I mean Girard is VERY good but I honestly would not accept.

only if we have no chance of going anywhere in the playoffs BUT still would want to see a better prospect coming our way and a pretty high pick (2nd?).
