both falling short of meeting their expectations. avs get some size on the back end. habs get center depth and a shutdown c.

pacquette doesnt have expectations hes a min level vet center that will be gone after the season, and Romanov has not falling short of anything, hes in his second season and has shown lots of improvement, would be insane to give up on him already just for the sake of making a trade.

For the record, I'm not a Habs fan at all, I'm actually fan of direct rival and I really don't want them to improve. I really wish Bergevin would make that trade tomorrow. I'm just trying to tell you the reality

Tyson Jost is what he is at this point, 272 NHL GP so far, turns 24 y/o in March. Maybe he could still improve but that would be a stupid bet to take

Romanov was overhyped like crazy (because Montreal's market) but he is 2 years younger, a D-man (reach potential at an older age) and only 67 NHL GP

yea i mean romanov. he came over from the khl and wasn't able to establish offensive game. still needs work defensively. he was a healthy scratch the entire playoffs. not off to a great start this season.

80+ pro games in the khl too. so it's not like romanov fresh to playing against men. i will concede that romanov has a bit more potential but jost is a the more polished player right now.

I don't disagree but IMO you won't find many Habs fans, if any, who would like this deal. If I was a Habs fan, I surely wouldn't like it, even if you add a 2nd to Jost

i'm a fan of both teams. i think the deal is really fair but i also agree habs fans won't do this trade. there was too much hype around romanov that they'll never move him for fear of missing out. personally i think romanov likely projects to be somewhat similar to zadorov. a 4d on weaker teams, bottom pair on contenders. i think he'll likely get passed by the habs crop of young defenders over the next few seasons.

Jost may be more polished but Zero chance anyone in the habs organization makes that deal. Romanov already showing hes capable of playing a top 4 role as is, and if he continues to progress he has the ability to be a top pairing guy. If you've watched romanov play this season on a nightly basis you would know that this isnt a even a discussion. and Yes romanov played in the KHL but he his also a D man and usually they take a bit longer to develop.

he's only 4 d on the habs because they don't have better options. kulak, wideman, and niku are reserve defensemen. a few months ago when the habs had better options romanov was a healthy scratch for the entire playoffs. there's some potential there but i don't think he'll ever be a top line d. i think he tops out as a second pair defenseman if he figures it out.

he was a healthy scratch for most of the playoffs and that made little sense since we were playing Gustaffson on a nightly basis, part of the reason romanov seems to be struggling more than he is, is because current management refuses to let these young plays have any runway for error, Savard had one of the worst starts to a third period i've ever seen last game and it led to a goal against 6 seconds in, if that was romanov he is most likely scratched tonight. We arent exactly a great at developing players as an organization.

I think with what Romanov has already showed, he has a bit of offensive skill in him, hes a great skater, and throws solid open ice hits, he has a lot that he brings to the game to easily keep him in the top 4 for years, i think Ghule will pass him soon as he is probably the closest thing we have to a legit top pairing d man in the system, but aside from that i dont see anyone else coming up that is a lock to pass him. Harris maybe but theres also a strong chance he holds out and becomes a free agent.

i think ghule and norlinder will pass him for sure. then i dont think its out of the question, simple due to the quantity of defensive prospects, that the habs hit on one of mailoux, harris, struble, fairbrother or brook. petry, savard, and edmundson and all locked up for several more years too.

The trade doesn’t make sense for the isles. Beauvillier is the isles best winger and the main driver of their best line.
