Too soon to give up, but the excpectations and pressures are too high.
Sometimes its the right veteran mix, and I dont think NYR has that. Its also guidance and faith in management, and after the debacle of last season, NYR doesn;t have that.
other examples are similar/dissimilar: Nolan Patrick in Philly had right vets, leadership, put up 31 pts in 3rd line time first 2 seasons, but his downfall/non-progression was injuries (but similar was his almost fear to carry the puck/make decisions). Nico H in NJ was placed with a very poor team, wrong vets and leaders and expected to carry the load (which I see as a developing problem in Buffalo of just throwing 7-8 forwards in their 3rd yr or less out there and asking them to develop and shoulder the load of production and winning). Theres only so much ice time/coaches/development focus in every organization and its almost natural that some dont get the focus they need.
Ultimately, not a good deal for CHI, they just signed McCabe long term (his first spot outside BUFF) and Strome is a good young player in a rut.
NYR might be better off moving those struggling pieces elsewhere, theres nothing to say that they couldn;t develop far better elsewhere or that they are what they are. I don;t believe that Kravtsov is another Pavel Brendl, but I dont see him getting the icetime/development focus when NYR has 3-4 projects ahead of him
