Why would we pay extra to lose the D man we need and also only pick up a redundant depth forward.

none of this makes sense.

Canucks were looking at signing Tyler Ennis to a PTO before Ottawa snatched him up. Since things aren't looking bright for the Sens to make the playoffs, there is no reason why they aren't going to be open for business with their depth players. Victor Mete is still a young guy at only 23, so you could argue he still has some potential to be unlocked with a change of scenery, and he's an RFA after this season, and Vancouver usually doesn't say no to cap space. Tucker Poolman is a good third pairing guy, and Ottawa might be interested in picking him up since he is under contract for another three years going forward, while Mete, a guy who can play both sides, gets a fresh start. I think the Canucks are still interested in Ennis, and in this proposal, sending a minor league player in exchange for him offsets the downgrade in draft picks

A PTO has minimal value but less now that we filled up our roster without him
Mete is a depth piece which also helps us less since we got Juulson.

We need Poolman

You want us to pay picks and a player to lose a main roster need to fill multiple gaps we already filled.

This still makes no sense.

I'd still say Mete is still a project that might be worth an investment, like I said, he's only 23 and I think that's too young to already be written off as just a depth piece. He's played in at least 50% of regular season games ever season of his career thus far. Considering Chiasson doesn't offer much value 5 on 5 I think his days on the roster are number and he'll be waived soon, and the team would be interested in trading for Ennis as he is somewhat versatile, and even though he only got a contract after a PTO, the important thing was that he got signed and clearly is regarded as being able to contribute something
