If Leo Komarov's contract has been mutually terminated (likely IMO, he's headed to the KHL - https://twitter.com/artur_khairul/status/1458361832830275587?s=21 )
The Isles will free up another $1.125m (prorated) cap space that can accumulate towards the trade deadline. However...what if Lou is proactive and uses the space BEFORE the deadline. Is a trade imminent? Chara is not a long term solution. Lou and Barry have already hinted at this as politely as they can. Address LD early in the season, get someone acclimated to the team, and allow the Pelech-Pulock pairing to get back together ASAP.
Isles can absorb Lindholm's full AAV now if they carry a 22 man roster. Ross Johnson just signed a 4 year extension at $1.1m making him unlikely to be claimed. Richard Panik or Anatoly Golyshev could be called up and be the forward fill-in guy for any injury/scratch in the lineup. Alternatively, Simon Holmstrom is waivers exempt so he could also potentially go back and forth as needed.
Anaheim gets a 1st rounder, Bode Wilde is waivers exempt and can come back to the NHL if the Ducks don't care about his vaccination status, Bellows would go through waivers in order to absorb Lindholm. So they just give him to the Ducks as part of the deal instead.
I agree and hope you’re right. Re Aho it’s obvious he’s not a Trotz guy, but he’s still here and they chose to not sign Gustafsson bc of him. I get Lou don’t want to lose an asset for free, but having him just sit in the stands for 2 years is weird. Especially when Chára’s been this bad. Give him 3-5 games atleast and then end it permanently if Trotz still feels the same about him. Painful to see a player just sit out in crucial years of his career. If I was him I would try to do a Sami Niku.
Lol yeah the Aho situation is weird. Aho won’t terminate his contract because he doesn’t have enough of a track record to command more $ from another team
